The Ultimate Prague History Tour

Description
Seven hours may seem a long time - but of course we will have breaks at cafés, food stalls or in a park, when it comes to more detailed explanations. We also stop whenever you'd like to take a photo. You will get a very profound insight on 1000 years of history - from the very inception of this city till today. This city and this country have left their heavy imprint on Europe's history. I don't do groups - just you and me, max. 6 people in case of a family or friends travelling together. I'd like to have a permanent dialogue with you. You can change the itinerary any time - there's so much to see here. So far, all my guests have been delighted about my walks.

Itinerary
To get to Prague Castle, we get off the tram at a stop past the Castle to avoid crowds and have a walk through the co called New World quarter which is incerdibly picturesque and basically empty.
This is one of the most attractive sanctuaries for St. Mary in a monastery-like setting, with a breathtaking church and a treasury. Recent research has found out, that large parts of its mystic legend turned out to be true.
This is Prague's attraction no. 1, thus often crowded. We will decide on the spot if we want to walk through. It's most interesting object is the cathedral, the unusual location of which has both religious as well as political reasons. In this context I'll give you a detailed idea of the amazing genesis of the Gothic style - an insight which you will hardly get in any other tour. It's one of my favourite subjects.
This is a very pretty, but also very touristic street. We soon turn right to St. John's Hill, a quiet neighbourhood that once housed many Italian artists. Why and when I'll tell you in detail - it's another story closely linking art, religion and politics.
The beautiful central square of the so called Lesser Town, full of architecture, history, tales of religious upheaval, baroque splendour and espionage stories from WWI.
We're approaching Vltava river, arrive at a very pretty little square and the church as well as the embassy (!) of the Maltese knights, further to the palace of the French embassy which we might be able to visit upon prior request, to the Lennon Wall which is, alas, only a sad remnant of what it once was, and to Kampa island, a beautiful green oasis with a few very interesting attractions.
A wonderful little contemporary art museum in a former mill and the largest collection of František Kupka, one of the pioneers of Abstract Painting. One of my favourite museums, initiated by one of the most interesting women of Prague's recent history. We have her biography in our library, and I'll tell you the amazing story of her career.
If Charles Bridge is too busy we cross the river on the Legions' Bridge which leads us to Old Town and to the National Theatre. It played an important role in the country's fight for independence in the 19th century. I have to give you a detailed introduction to that.
We will walk criss cross around Old Town - according to what you've seen already. I'd rather show you the less known attractions and would like to give you an idea on how Medieval villages became cities and how much of this is still to see in Prague with its 1000 years of history.
If we still have enough time I'd like to finish the tour over a cup of coffee at Prague's Municipal House - the city's most beautiful Art Nouveau building with a concert hall, an exhibition space, two restaurants and a gorgeous café. This will give me the opportunity to tell you the genesis of Art Nouveau.

Our guide was excellent and provided us with a solid foundation to Prague. His timing was really good, but yet flexible so that they’re extra things that we want to see he was open to anything.
I enioyed walking Prague with our guide Gunther and learning about the history of Prague and the Czech Republic.
This day walking tour was intensive and extraordinarily insightful. Gunther is alert to your interests and questions, and happy to pace exploration to individual needs. Cannot more highly recommend but do wear your best walking shoes!
Our group got the perfect guided tour of Prague. Günther Krumpak has incredible historical knowledge and makes the tour very interesting, he has an answer to all questions immediately. Great if a guided tour not only goes to the well-known hotspots and can thus also show the real Prague. Thank you for this great tour.
Günther is a 10 star guide. If you want someone who loves history, culture, and art he’s the guide for you. His knowledge is unmatched, his ability to adapt is remarkable, his genuine love and pride for his country showed in abundance, and his strong character and integrity are obvious when he discusses anything. His energy is like that of a 20 year old and I think he would win a marathon if he wanted to. He is the type of guide that helps you when you’re sick by locating the closest pharmacy, communicating with the pharmacist for you to get the necessary medication, then locates restaurants that have soup to help you, then locates the closest market and helps get drinks for the ill person. He repeatedly checked on my sister when she fell ill and was genuinely concerned for her well being. He made many adjustments within our 4 day tour of Prague, Cesky Krumlov, and Vienna because of illness and life. He pivots with a smile on his face, like I’ve never seen before. He would simply ask, “How can I help? He offered up many recommendations from food to restaurants to stores. He does not receive any funds from any of the above, he just knows what his customers like and should see when visiting these amazing places. He is passionate about his subject areas- which are extremely vast and most passionate about his customers enjoyment in viewing any city. He was thoughtful and as two women traveling alone, we felt so safe with him. He made sure we entered our hotel when he left us for the day, carried our bags, which was a huge help, and spotted me crowns and euros when necessary. I have never met a guide like him and truly don’t believe I ever will again. He is simply remarkable! Whether you book him for a day, week, or month he is the best guide you will ever get. It’s always a great sign when others are calling and trying to book him when he’s with you. We were so lucky that he was able to work us into a four day span, as he’s in such high demand. He speaks 5 languages fluently(English, Italian, German, Czech, and another one) and conversed with taxi drivers, waiters, and shopkeepers for us. We hope you are able to spend some time with this dynamic tour guide(he’s so much more than a tour guide, I hate to use that word). We look forward to booking him for our next tour.
Hello Erin, Thank you so much for this overwhelming review! I loved travelling with you two, and, despite all the difficulties we encountered, and the very hot days, I think you got a good insight into a few important historical and cultural aspects of Central Europe. Thanks again for you visible interest!

Hello Theresa, AsI told Erin already, I was really happy to meet guests with so much enthusiasm on the history and culture of these two countries and thus of the core of Central Europe. Thank you so much for your feedback and everything else you offered me.
This tour allowed me to have a better understanding of the historic events taking place in Prague during the period of construction and development of the various sites visited. Guenther is very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator.
We walked around Old Town and visited historic sites that are not normally visited by tourist. We learned about Chech history and the people who lived in this country.
I spent a lovely day in Prague with Gunther, a brilliant historian who brings a wealth of knowledge and insight into one of the most interesting and complex cities in all of Europe. I learned so much about the history, politics, architecture, culture of Prague and its inhabitants. Gunther knows the city backwards and forwards, and was able to craft a highly enjoyable walking experience that told the city's story in a coherent and accessible fashion. Most importantly, Gunther skillfully designed a route thay avoided the city's sizeable crowds - which is no easy feat. I highly recommend Gunther's Ultimate Prague History Tour, and look forward to working with Gunther again in the future and recommending him to my friends and colleagues.
We enjoyed the personal service. Gunter did a wonderful job of explaining the history of the Czech Republic. We saw so much in Prague! We definitely recommend Gunter. The primarily walking tour with some public transportation was at our own speed which was great.
