Itinerary
The Quintessence of Tonkin invites you to go through the gate of our ancient Vietnamese village and tells you the story of thousand years of literature in one hour. The Show The Show draws inspiration from the spiritual history of the nearby Thay Pagoda telling the story of the pagoda's founding by venerable monk Tu Dao Hanh, and explains the ancient union between religion and the monarchy. Years in the making and with hundreds of performers, an interactive stage, state-of-the-art technology, and a stunning setting, this live spectacle is an unmissable highlight of any trip to Hanoi
The Story You will experience six aspects of the cultural Quintessence of Tonkin: Poetry, Buddhism, Nostalgia, Music & Painting, Joy & Festivities. Not only opening up the cultural space of the northern delta with people's daily life activities, the play also shows the audience the best of the water puppetry art with the story of the venerable monk Tu Dao Hanh and the history of the ancient Thang Long royal palace.
The Performers There are two groups of performers in this show: local families of farmers, bringing their experience and showcasing their lives to the audiences, and a young team of talented Students from the Hanoi College of Dance, bringing youth and energy to the stage. The Theater The theater itself is an engineering masterpiece. The natural lake was transformed into a stage, including a state-of-the-art hydrothermal system that raises the 15-ton Thuy Dinh pagoda from under the water in just under a minute. As the Thay Mountain composes the background of the scenery, we also had to develop a unique illumination system to light up the hills, 1.5km away, using 40 lamps of 1500 watts! The Costumes The costumes are made of traditional patterns and raw materials — silk and cotton. They are all made onsite, and in order to faithfully illustrate our history and culture, were produced under the supervision of a historian and multiple artisans.

Great show. I’ve never seen anything like it. I also booked the city tour option and thoroughly enjoyed the city tour.
The show is truly stunning with a production value that rivals any of the American theme parks. Make sure that you get the platinum package. It's well worth the extra cost to have a delete entry, reserved seats, and even a little snack.
It was a beautiful and authentic evening!
It’s a spectacle to watch. All of the people involved in it has taken a lot of effort to bring it to a proper execution. It’s absolutely worth it. The song, dance, light shows- everything was entertaining and brilliant. Though the platinum is the highest ticket range, I will suggest taking gold for the best view (carry umbrella though). The seating arrangement closer to the stage is - Gold- Silver and then Platinum (since platinum is like a pavilion with shade). Also to mention, I had taken the option of private pick-up and drop and that was exceptionally smooth. The operators were constantly in touch with me through WhatsApp giving me information of arrival of my taxi to my hotel and dropping me back to my hotel seamlessly.
The show is very wonderful and unique!!! It is something very different. The whole production especially the lighting is fascinating. Bravo!!!
40 minutes from HANOI a beautiful show on the water with dancers actors and puppets Many paintings are linked in a sound and light Before the show you have stands to eat Vietnamese specialties pancake soups and skewers and dine on tables before the show A well-orchestrated show with beautiful rather traditional images of North Vietnamese life An organized lake where different well-orchestrated scenes stand We stay in the naive What to discover if you are on HANOI
This show had me on the edge of my seat from the moment it started. It was magical. And the service was first rate very professional. I highly advise it for any occasions, family, date night, solo.
We throughly enjoyed the show. It was spectacular and it exceeded our expectations. The whole performance was set in the lake at the foot of the mountain which was better than any stage production we have ever seen. The use of the water is something to behold. Any pictures you may have seen won’t do this justice, it’s a definite must see.
The show was well done and very interesting. It was good to learn some history. The ride was very long for an only an hour show.
this is a must see if you are in Hanoi . I am so grateful for this experience. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Not to mention that communication with the company was clear and good. They took us to the airport right after the shore for extra $15 and that worked out so well. I am grateful for this opportunity to experience the show and not to miss our airplane. We did take a private driver.
