This was a very interesting and unique tour about some of the night critters that can be found in the Osa Peninsula. Gian was very knowledgeable and if you ask, he will even send you a list of all the creatures you saw on the tour so you can remember all their names, including some helpful links to articles/videos for more detailed information about them. Great introduction to Costa Rica’s creepy crawlies!
What a fantastic time with Gianfranco!!! Communication by Tracie was great, very transparent as to what we need for the experience. They are true experts on Costa Rican wildlife and demonstrated their passion through sharing their knowledge. Tracie had also emailed us a list of everything we saw on the guide and sent us link with more information as well. If you have a chance to do this experience with Tracie and/or Gianfranco, DO IT!!!
This tour was phenomenal. You are almost guaranteed to see animals. Both guides are extremely knowledgeable and speak perfect English.
A must-do activity if you’re in Drake Bay!! Gianfranco is an exceptional guide, I was absolutely blown away by his immense knowledge on Costa Rican wildlife and very keen eye spotting the most hidden creatures - my favourite were the trap door spiders! Also thank you to Tracie who was so helpful and friendly during the booking process, sending both detailed directions to get to the meeting point and a list of the animals we’d seen after the tour. Would thoroughly recommend for any animal enthusiasts!!
This was my third encounter with the Nighttour. Earlier visits in the zeroes were amazing, and this time I returned with my 10 year old son. Gianfranco did a great job, and together with Tracie the knowledge and passion for Costa Rica wildlife is amazing. A must-do tour when u’re visiting Drake.
I've done several night tours in various places around latin america and this was by far the best one I've done. The spiders were my favorite; we saw trap door spiders (the tour was worth doing for just the trap door spider alone), a net casting spider, and a golden orb weaver, among others. Gian did the tour because Tracie had an injury and his knowledge of all the creatures we saw was incredible. I learned so many fun facts and it was really nice that they kept a list of everything we saw online for access later. I would definitely recommend this tour to a friend. It would be great for kids and adults alike!
We had an excellent moment with Gianfranco! Bats, lizards, spiders, raccoons, scorpions, insects and many more: his good eyes spotted many inhabitants of Drake Bay. We learnt a lot, and by the end of the tour, we were able to recognize some of them by ourselves. If you want to have some nice discussions about wildlife (illustrated with drawings, pictures, live data from sensors) and spend a night going through surprises, you should definitely book your tour too! Tracie was really helpful the days before to get all informations needed (meeting point, equipment, weather conditions...). We are lucky to have such people willing to share their passion.
Wow, just wow! We are so thankful that we were able to book this night tour the day before (off-season though, best to book more in advance we were told). Gianfranco was our tour guide. We saw a few mammals, bats, spiders, frogs, lizards, a snake, a salamander and some interesting insects too. Gianfranco took his time to explain their specifics and it was a joy to witness his passion, knowledge and respect for the animals. Tracie couldn't be there due to an injury, but she was very helpful and thorough with all the information you might need for the tour beforehand and she even fixed us a taxi driver to our stay. If you have a chance, book this tour. It's an unforgettable experience and for us it was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica!
I had a great experience on the Night Tour with Gianfranco - he has a wealth of knowledge about the fauna that was around, presented it in an engaging way, and patiently answered all my questions. He also had some of the best equipment I've seen a night walk guide possess - a spotting scope with a tablet display attached, and an ultrasound bat detector. A summary of everything we saw and some links to additional resources was also provided on request after the tour! My one regret was buying a copy of the mammal field guide that he co-authored and forgetting to ask him to sign it!
Gianfranco has a good eye for spotting all kinds of nocturnal animals. He can tell interesting and quietly interesting about everything he sees. Really recommended for a very nice evening in nature.
