Description
Teahupoo, located on the little part of Tahiti (or "Tahiti Iti"), is now worldly known thanks to its special waves that host an international surfing competition. If you are visiting Tahiti and her islands, this tour is a "must do", even if you're not surfer. Instead of watching from the beach, you can have something different, something unique by boarding our new aluminium catamaran boat. Our captain, borne and raised in Tahiti, is also a surfer and grew up surfing the whole area. He will tell you everything you have to know about "Teahupo'o". You will navigate a place full of history and "mana".

Itinerary
Avant de commencer ce tour, il vous faudra venir par vous même jusqu’à la marina de Teahupoo qui se situe à 1h30min de voiture de Papeete. Une fois à la marina de Teahupoo, vous serez accueillis par votre capitaine puis embarquerez à bord de votre bateau. Après 3 minutes de traverser du lagon, vous arriverez sur le spot de surf de Teahupoo. Là, votre capitaine vous expliquera tout ce qu’il y a à savoir sur ce spot de surf mythique. Des anecdotes, des histoires, des expériences personnelles, des légendes, vous vivrez une expérience personnalisée. Après une heure passée ensemble, le bateau reviendra à son point de départ où vous pourrez récupérer votre véhicule. En fonction de la taille des vagues, préparez vous à vivre une expérience unique, rempli de « mana ».

It was very cool to experience seeing waves at one of the world’s best surf spots. We did the early morning private wave watching tour which was wonderful. Our guide explained the area and knew some of the surfers that were out that day. Waves were small but very clean and gorgeous to see. Being out there lets you see up close the force these waves have. It was exciting to see the surfers up close riding the waves. It’s an experience we will not forget and a check mark on our bucket list.
Super nice early boat trip out to the waves to watch the surfers. Was relaxed and beautiful to see these wonderful waves crashing over the reef.
We had the most incredible experience today at Teahupoo with Timothee and his son Hainau, the best captains around. Both really nice, approachable with a desire to share and show their treasure at best. We were so close that we felt the energy in the line up and at the same time super safe since Timothee knows how to read the wave like no one else. Highly recommend!

This experience should be on your agenda when in Tahiti, we had an incredible time! We were warmly greeted at the marina parking and then boarded our taxi (which ended up being just us). Our taxi driver was welcoming and fun, and definitely knew the waters, we got so close to the wave. Seeing the Teahupo’o wave up close is simply magical, we loved seeing the surfers. Highly recommend! Make sure you bring 500 XPF for parking (they had change). Booking was easy and efficient. Tour was around 30 mins, plenty of time to see some great surfing. Bring sunscreen! And some beers :)

My wife and I had the chance to observe the mythical wave of Teahupoo, the one hosting the surfing events of the Olympic Games, during a boat trip in July. It was just spectacular — seeing this wave form a few meters away from us is a breathtaking experience, impossible to forget. The organizer was of exemplary kindness and professionalism. He passionately shared his knowledge about the spot, the surfers and the power of the wave. He did everything to ensure that we had the best possible moment, in safety, while getting closer to the action. I attach a few pictures of the wave to give an overview, but nothing beats being there in real life. If you’re in Tahiti, don’t miss this unique experience — it’s one of the most beautiful natural shows in the world.

Risky booking in advance as the wave may be nonexistent. This is also massively overpriced as local water taxi's which are ready whenever you want them, are around £30 / $37.50!

It’s true that water taxis are an option, but our service is entirely different: our boat is brand new, spacious, and comfortable, and our captains/guides are experienced surfers themselves. They know the wave inside out and share everything you need to know to make the experience both enriching and safe. Quality and safety come at a price: we are not trying to be the cheapest, but to provide you with the best possible experience under optimal conditions. 🌊✨ As for water taxis, there is a real price war going on: if price is your only concern, you can certainly find rundown boats at much lower rates. However, there is no guarantee whatsoever when it comes to safety, guidance, or the quality of the overall experience. And of course, we don’t control the weather: if the waves are small or even nonexistent on certain days, we can’t create them — nature decides. 🌤️

The excursion is so much fun and Haunui is a great captain! He shares his knowledge and stories of the wave, the area and the history of Teahupo’o. Highly recommend even if there are not any surfers out in the wave - just being there and feeling the swells is a really special experience.
We had a great time on this excursion and highly recommend booking one for yourself. Seeing the 20’ waves up close was better than we expected. On top of that, he explained about how the reef protects the islands and how we were able to get so close to the waves themselves. Definitely worth renting a car to explore the island and see where the Olympics were held. Just do it.
