Itinerary
Start this tour directly from your hotel or apartment in Barcelona city. We come to pick you up, so please be sure to let us know exactly where you are staying. Enjoy an overview of Barcelona city along the route, pass by Catalunya Square, Barcelona Cathedral, Passeig de Gracia and the Gaudi Houses, such as the Batllo and the Pedrera, and many other highlights.
Before entering the city, get amazed by the ingenuous construction of the Devil’s Bridge. This aqueduct of 711 feet (217 meters) long and 85 feet (26 meters) high, is a spectacular example of the advanced Roman engineering. The Devil’s Bridge provided Tarragona with water right up until the 18th century. Take amazing pictures of this ancient bridge surrounded by woodlands.
Start a walking tour through the old town of the city and let yourself go through a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets and shady squares. Soak up the atmosphere and imagine what it must have felt like to live here during the middle ages or the Roman Empire times.
Get the chance to get inside of the amphitheatre of Tarragona, the 13th UNESCO listed Roman remains. The amphitheater was cut into the hillside leading up from the beach at the start of the second century AD and used to stage Gladiator contests and public executions.
You will see the Roman walls of the city, the oldest construction of the Roman Tarragona since they go back to the foundation of the initial military camp or the immediately later period.
Have a look to the Cathedral, declared a National Monument and a Cultural Good of National Interest.
Pass by a surprising monument of Castellers and learn from your passionate guide about this typical Catalan tradition of human tower building. This massive creation, formed by a total of 219 figures, is 11 meters high and weighs about 12 tons. A must-see while being in Tarragona.
This basic but beautiful stop is fundamental to understanding Tarragona. The main market, Mercat Central, is located just off Rambla Nova and is housed in a Modernist hallmark building of 1915. This is where the heartbeat of the city lies and where to find fresh and seasonal products of the nearby rural area.
Pass in front of the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona, a public museum with elements and remains of its rich past. It promotes the recovery, conservation, research and dissemination of heritage from the Roman city of Tarraco and its area of influence. Listen to your guide to find out interesting stories of the Roman civilization.
Understand the urban development of Tarragona through the Tarraco Model in front of the museum: a magnificent scale model of Tarraco of the 2nd century BC, in its period of maximum splendour.
The Balcony of the Mediterranean is a prominent viewpoint at the end of La Rambla Nova, from which you can enjoy a wide panorama over the coast and the Mediterranean sea. Enjoy the fresh Mediterranean breeze while admiring beautiful views.
Enjoy a walk into history through the Roman remains of Tarraco. It is SO old and as you walk underneath it’s imposing structure, you feel as if you are stepping back in time and treading in the footsteps of the Roman soldiers. Touch the stones, it’s ‘real’ history!

Ramon was knowledgeable, friendly, and a safe driver. We really enjoyed the whole experience! We recommend Ramon and this tour to anyone interested in the history of Spain.
We went on this tour with Ramon. An interesting tour done at an easy pace. Ramon was a good driver and knew his topic well. The tour started and finished on time. We came back to Barcelona via a scenic coastal road. Would recommend.
We lost a day of our Barcelona visit doing this tour. Viator double charges this - don’t book through them. We overpaid an extraordinary amount without realizing how limited this experience would also be. Our tour guide was kind but knew almost no history and had no idea how to tour the area. We got lost numerous times. This was a total waste of money and our time.
Diego was absolutely fantastic! The content of the tour, the locations we visited, and the museum were all wonderful, but it was Diego’s warm, personal, and informative approach that made this a one-of-a-kind experience. I wish it could have lasted all week! This was a special and memorable day.
Beautiful city facing the sea, full of Greek Roman history. Ideal for excursions in and around its interior in about 4 days. Visit nearby beaches like Salou with family and friends. The best seafood dishes!
Excellent guide! He provided transport to/from our hotel, arrived early, contacted us ahead of time to ensure smooth pick up and concluded the tour on schedule. He provided a great deal of historical information about the site! It was a wonderful trip!
Our guide Luis Goula was very attentive, helpful and very friendly, explained in detail the history of Tarragona, very good, I recommend this tour with Luis.
Tarragona is a fascinating location, the one-time capital of the Romans in Spain some 2,000 years ago. Much has been preserved, not only of the Romans but also of the city's Medieval heritage. A great add-on for any trip to Barcelona. Guide Ramon was top-notch, a veritable Wikipedia of cultural and historical lore about the region...and he'll include some real estate tips!
We had a wonderful time with Miquel. He is knowledgeable, friendly and funny. He is also an excellent driver. Tarragona is a beautiful city and the Roman structures and remains awe inspiring, especially the Ferreres Aqueduct. This half-day tour should be at the top of your to do list for any visit to Barcelona.
Teo was an excellent guide! He did a wonderful job of explaining what we were experiencing and the historical significance of the region.
