Taormina: Sicilian Street Food & Wine Tour by Do Eat Better

Itinerary

45 min

Our Sicilian adventure begins with a journey through the island’s world-class wines. Renowned for its bold and expressive flavors, Sicily invites us to indulge in signature varietals like the robust Nero d’Avola, the smooth and spicy Cerasuolo di Vittoria, and the earthy elegance of Etna reds, born from volcanic soil. With each sip, we’re swept into the heart of Sicilian culture, surrounded by the lively buzz of Taormina’s piazzas, colorful facades, and sun-drenched streets. Alongside the wine, enjoy a handpicked selection of Sicilian cold cuts and cheeses. Cured with local herbs and spices, the meats offer bold, Mediterranean flavors, perfectly complemented by cheeses like sharp Pecorino Siciliano and the nutty, smooth Caciocavallo. Together, they capture the true essence of Sicily’s rich culinary heritage.

45 min

Next on the tasting journey is the iconic arancino, a golden, crispy rice ball filled with delicious surprises like savory ragù, melted cheese, or tender peas. Crunchy on the outside and bursting with flavor inside, it’s a perfect bite of Sicilian comfort. This stop is located near the ancient Greek Theatre of Taormina, one of the town’s most iconic landmarks, adding a touch of history to your culinary journey.

45 min

You’ll also savor the authentic Focaccia Messinese, a soft, aromatic Sicilian bread topped with juicy tomatoes, briny olives, and sweet onions, all infused with fragrant local herbs. It’s a warm, flavorful bite that perfectly showcases the heart of traditional Sicilian baking.

45 min

No visit to Taormina is complete without indulging in the iconic Cannolo Siciliano, a crisp, golden shell filled with sweet ricotta and topped with delights like pistachios, chocolate chips, or candied fruit. Prefer something refreshing? Try a traditional granita, Sicily’s famous semi-frozen dessert, bursting with flavors like lemon, almond, or coffee. Whether creamy or icy, it’s a sweet finale that captures the soul of Sicilian dessert culture.

Taormina street food

Allegra was a knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging guide. The food stops felt authentic, with delicious traditional Italian and Sicilian specialties rather than touristy choices. I also appreciated that the experience was not only about eating—we had a lovely walk through Taormina and learned more about the city, its culture, and local traditions along the way. It was a well-organized, enjoyable tour and a great way to experience both the food and atmosphere of Taormina.

Great afternoon in Taormina for food and wine

We had a fantastic time on this food tour with Simona. It was a lovely, intimate afternoon with her and another couple along for the tour. We all had a lot of fun and easy conversation. I was expecting small bites of food/wine to taste, but instead we were treated to large portions of a variety of popular Sicilian/Taorminan foods and wines. Well worth the money and your time if you’re in the area.

Sicilian food tour

My friend and I had a great time! We were able to try all of the typical Sicilian foods. Make sure you go hungry because you receive a ton of food! All the stops were great but especially the grocery store stop and Roberto’s cannoli were the two highlights! Our tour guides were so fun!
