f you are looking for a surface level tour of Hong Kong, there are plenty of options. But if you want a deeply researched, methodical, and soul stirring experience of the territory's wild side, Rory is in a league of his own. Rory was in touch with me for a month prior to our arrival, providing a level of planning that was frankly immaculate. When the local weather patterns suggested our initial plan for Sai Kung wouldn't yield the 'bang for buck' waterfalls I was looking for, Rory - a talented videographer himself - conducted extensive research to find a superior alternative. He recommended the Ng Tung Chai trek and identified Cape D'Aguilar as a rare and dramatic sunset option, perfectly complementing my photography style. The day itself was inspiring. Rory met us punctually at the Marco Polo and navigated us through the city’s bustling transport system with ease. The trek through the New Territories was brilliant, and his care for my family, especially my daughter, who loves hiking, was wonderful. He even treated us to an authentic Cantonese meal in Tai Po at a local spot tourists would never stumble upon. The 'cherry on the cake' was the sunset at the Cape. While Rory’s local knowledge and Cantonese were invaluable, but it was his eye for light and mood that truly stood out. I walked away with some of the best images of my entire trip. What impressed me most was that despite having a team of guides, Rory handled our bespoke request personally to ensure every detail was perfect. He is a local with a global perspective, and his passion for Hong Kong is infectious. My family and I couldn't recommend him more highly.
Thanks ever so much Som for such a thorough and thoughtful review! It was an immense pleasure to plan this trip with you and then do it together with your lovely family :) Can’t wait to see your photos. All the best Rory
This was a great hike. I did this hike beginning of February. It was not crowded at all. It’s a pretty intense hike for people who are couch potatoes. The first half is all up- Many steps are very tall. But one gets to see four waterfalls. It is so worth it. Just be in shape to do the hike. I went with Tristan from the company “Wild hong Kong” . He is very friendly and the logistics and organization were very smooth. If I return to Hong Kong, I will definitely contact this company again for more activities as I understand. They also do many other hikes and kayaking adventures.
Thanks Teresa, it was such a joy to share the experiences with you! Hope to adventure with you again one day :)
Our hiking guide Tristan did a great job of informing us of all the centipedes, snakes, and plants on our trip. Lively hike and would recommend. Great fun, get your legs ready for a good workout.
Thanks ever so much for touring with us Martin, was such a pleasure share with you the beautiful wildlife and scenery of Wild HK :)
Sneha was a delightful guide, very patient with us and explaining each part of the hike. It was steep and strenuous, but we took our time. However, her boss failed to tell us ahead of time where at the designated train station to meet her. We arrived 15 minutes early, didn't see anyone looking for us, so waited outside the station. Then spent the next 30 minutes searching around various exits from the station, even paying once to go back inside. Rory called our home phone, but that's useless for us here in Hong Kong. Once we finally connected with Sneha, all was well.
We absolutely disagree with your opinion with regards to rendezvous for the tour; YOUR inability to follow clear directions was most unfortunate, how come you are the first out of hundreds to have such a problem? Not only does your voucher and the tour description clearly state the exact location of where to meet, but I also messaged you the meeting location (exit A of the train station) on this platform and by text well in advance of the tours taking place. So if you subsequently go off on a wonder away from the train station to other parts of the town... then what do you expect will happen? As an operator of a tour, the only other means of communication at our disposal to contact you is the ‘contact number’ YOU provide us with. If your actual ‘contact number’ is different... wouldn’t it have been nice if you had let us know? Count yourself very lucky that we waited over 30 minutes ourselves wondering where an earth you were. Glad you enjoyed the tour nonetheless.
If you’re a hiker maybe it’s easy but if you aren’t an avid hiker or in super awesome shape this is a hard hike. Beautiful at the falls but be ready to be drenched in sweat 20 mins in (and bring a change of clothes! You will absolutely need them!). One person in our group said from the bus stop in total we hiked 90 stories- yeah. NOT easy. Remember you’re in the jungle, it was summer and like 85% humidity at the time so BRING WATER. I did but our guide said he’d had people show up with mini water bottles before- that ain’t gonna cut it! I’m glad I did it but I wish they’d classified it as a moderate hike so I was better prepared.
Many thanks for the review. Indeed, a moderate hike and is described accordingly on our website for those who care to check; "Difficulty - Generally moderate with the odd strenuous section". Not easy, our summer climate in HK is tropical so be ready ;) For Ng Tung Chai, bring a swimsuit as well for a dip in the refreshing waterfall rock pools.
The hike at Tai Mo Shan was really good and would recommend it as a get away from the buzz HK city. Waterfalls were gorgeous and so was the forest itself. Because it was raining, we didn't get a chance to swim in the waterfalls. I would totally recommend it on a sunny day. Rory was great as a guide and had good knowledge of the surrounding area. He was friendly, easy to chat with while hiking.
Ever so glad you enjoyed the trip! Many thanks for coming :)
It was December 23rd and my daughter and I found ourselves unexpectedly in Hong Kong for the weekend. It was good to get out of the city and into the New Territories and we had no problem meeting with our guide, Tristan, at the MTR station. Tristan was affable and the taxi out to Tai Mo was organised. It had started raining earlier in the morning and got heavier as the day progressed. It was nice for walking but the only problem was that it also got SLIPPERY. We were only wearing sneakers and I would recommend proper hiking shoes if you have them. This was not an easy hike. I had completed Dragon's Back the week before so perhaps I was overconfident. I'm a 48 year old Australian woman and probably about 10 kilos overweight, though fairly fit. I struggled, not because I got out of breath, but because on the very steep rocky ascent my leg muscles literally gave out, which gave me a bit of worry, as it was rugged terrain and I would think you would need to be airlifted out of there. My 16 year old daughter, who is slim and fit, later confessed to me that she was having the same worry. Now for the good bits - even in the mist, the waterfalls were spectacular, and so was the view towards Shenzhen! I also enjoyed the temple and all of the little shrines along the way. I would have liked to have learned more about the geology, biology and history of the area (when I had enough breath to talk). All in all, I would highly recommend doing this - just be aware that although the climb is arduous it doesn't last for that long and that the walk down again is lovely.
We were on the tail end of a 12 day/5 city trek through China. We had done a lot of walking (up to 14 miles in one day) so we were ready. This is located north of the city so we had to take a train from Mongkok, but that was easy and CHEAP! Once we got to the location, we were met by our guide, Rory! Rory then took our family of four the final stretch in his personal vehicle. This allowed us time to chat and get to know each other a bit. Once we got to the location, the walking commenced. This quickly turned into climbing and more climbing and more climbing! BUT THE SITES WERE AMAZING!!! Especially, if you love being out in nature! I am 53, wife is 51, daughter and son are 24 and 14 respectively. My wife and I found this challenging, but we took our time and Rory was very supportive and made sure we were there and moving along just fine. He did not rush us one bit. I mentioned it was challenging, but it was SO rewarding. We would do it again in a heartbeat! Rory was a fun and FANTASTIC guide through this venture! My ONLY suggestion I can give......do not underestimate the amount of water you may need. We had 6 20 oz bottles for the family of four and that was not enough. Otherwise, if you want to get out into nature, experience another part of the Hong Kong area, and enjoy the humor and motivation of a great guide (Rory), then book this excursion TODAY!
Thanks ever so much for your kind words and so glad you had a good time! Always bring more water than expected :)

Great hike. So glad we booked this tour with Viator, this hike was located a little outside the city and having a local guide to navigate us to/from made it an easy day. Rory, our guide, was awesome. Prior to the trip he helped me plan ahead and even after the hike was kind enough to give us tips for the rest of our trip. My girlfriend and I are in pretty good shape and it took us about three hours when we reached the loop we opted to hike up one side and then down thru the waterfalls. Definitely was a workout both ways but the multiple falls were beautiful and we enjoyed our time. Pack some snacks and water as it's a solid workout and you'll likely need some fuel. I'll say it again though, Rory was awesome, really knew the trail and clearly loves being out in the trails.

What an amazing hike, I Highly recommend this tour... If you are looking for a hiking tour in Hong Kong, I recommend this. It was a little challenging at times, but Rory encouraged us and made our day. The scenery and photos are stunning.
