Sunset and Manta Ray Snorkel Adventure

We stayed in the water every bit of 45 minutes and it got super cold and people were starting to whine right and left and saw one manta ray. I know they can’t protect when these things come, but you think they’re a little bit clearer of a guarantee policy. It was very disappointing as they advertise. You see so many of them as well as told us that on the way out. I called them the next day to find out if we could go out again and was told they would get back with me to me know but never got a call back and said I would have to pay again, but they would discount it.

Beautiful creatures, but be aware that your arms/shoulders will get tired from holding onto the flotation platform. Also, bring napkins for afterward because there will definitely be a lot of snot in your nose from the snorkel and tissues were not anywhere to be found on board.

KONASTYLE gave my family one of the most magical experiences we have ever had! Our Crew was beyond fantastic! Rules and safety was very well made known, they went above and beyond with service and answering questions and when our youngest son had a panic attack and was done with the snorkeling, the crew took him back to the boat and made sure the rest of us could finish the experience! If ever given the chance, DO IT! Five stars plus!

What an incredible experience! This is the only place in the world where you can snorkel with manta rays, so it's really special. Kona Style is a great operator. You meet at their store location in the King Kamehameha hotel. To find it, you enter the lobby, go to the left, and then go all the way to the end of the hall, make another left, and it's out near the pool. They check you in and give you the chance to use the hotel bathroom. Everyone walks down to the pier together and boards the boat. If you bring a bag with you, you can keep it by you on the boat. On the ride out to the snorkeling location, they give you a safety briefing and hand out snorkels, masks, and shorty tops. I was worried I'd be cold, but the shorty really was enough. Once you get out there, they give you a pool noodle and help you get into the water. The floating platforms are very close to the boat, so you just grab onto the first handle and then move yourself hand over hand to your spot. There was almost no free swimming. Then you position the noodle under your legs to keep you laying flat so you don't accidentally touch the mantas, which can damage the coating on their skin and leave them vulnerable to infection. After that, you wait and watch. Mantas came around pretty quickly. There was one that was visiting our area consistently, and eventually she came closer and was doing barrel roles right under us. It was so cool. Rays are my favorite marine animal, so this is something I'll remember forever. Seeing videos of it doesn't do it justice - being there in-person with these 100 lb gentle giants is really special. There are staff in the water with you at all times, who are lifeguard trained. We had several seasoned, older staff members in addition to one young man, possibly in high school, who was being trained. The water was particularly rough the day I visited. At one point, I turned my head just as a swell slapped me in the side of the face, which knocked the snorkel off my mask and then my mask as well, which had slipped when the snorkel came off. The young man was wonderful helping me out. He helped keep me above the water swells while also putting my mask and snorkel back together. I couldn't have done it without his assistance because it really was rough that night. You can also get out early if you want, or if you get cold or for whatever reason. You just call out to a staff member, and they'll escort you back to the boat. After the snorkel is over, they collect the gear and then they have hot drinks available. I highly recommend doing this with Kona Style. There are an incredible number of details that need to be taken care of to ensure that everyone is safe and has a fun experience, and they excelled at this. The staff were knowledgeable, experienced, professional, fun, and friendly.

Amazing from start to finish. Experienced crew made us feel safe at all times - sitting on the front as we went out during sunset was an incredible. Didn’t see the most mantas on our night (we did see two) but it was still fantastic! Highly recommend Kona Style!

The Snorkeling with Manta Ray were amazing. Encounter a lot of Manta Rays. The crew were amazing, very professional, kind, and friendly.

The most remarkable experience, hard to describe. The crew was so helpful and made it accessible to all. I was traveling with two timid swimmers and they were able to get in the water and enjoy the entire experience. To come so close to the beautiful mantas is something I will remember forever - they were completely unfazed by us being in the water with them, not spooked by noise - they came in for multiple close encounters. I can't say enough how amazing it was - it is a definite repeat for me if I get back to the big island.

This was the most amazing tour!! From check in, ride over to spot, all of the explanations and tips, getting ready and finally the adventure itself, it was all spectacular!! The entire crew were amazing, attentive and friendly!! The Manta Rays were amazing and it was truly an epic experience!!
