Itinerary

5 min

We meet at the main entrance of the Palladium shopping center- in front of the Foot Locker sports shop. It is a very central place and easy to find.

10 min

We take a short- about 10 min. tram ride to our first destination.

40 min

Our first stop before we hit the beer gardens is an establishment known across Prague for its quality organic beef burgers. We have lunch here (vegetarian and vegan options are available) accompanied by refreshing beer/wine/cider/nonalcoholic drink.

5 min

5 min walk to our next establishment.

40 min

Following is the beer garden in the Academy of Fine Arts- Europe's most prestigious art faculty. We have a beer/cider/wine or nonalcoholic drink here.

5 min

10 min. walk to our next stop. As we walk through the neighborhood's side streets your guide will tell you some revealing stories of Nazi rule, communism, secret police, political prisoners, and heroes who gave their life for freedom.

40 min

Our second beer garden overlooks Prague with magnificent views. It is the very place where in 1989 a peaceful march started toward the city center. It was the final days of communism—the Velvet Revolution. We enjoy our beer/wine/cider or nonalcoholic drink here.

5 min

We walk to our next location

40 min

Our next stop is a local community beer garden. Very old school. It is right next door to the tennis courts where Martina Navrátilová was coached by her father in 1962. In 1975 she asked for political asylum in the USA. She was 18 years old. We have another refreshment here

10 min

Walk of aprox .10 min

10 min

We continue to the place where the largest statue of Joseph Stalin stood for 7 years. A stamp of oppression. Today a metronome stands there as a reminder that in time all things pass. Created in 1991. It is officially named The Time Machine. Above the plateau is a skatepark famous across Europe. In 1989 a Pirate radio station was set up in a nuclear bunker under where the statue used to stand. It was called Radio Stalin- 91.9 MHZ. In 1991 it got legitimacy and the broadcasting licence. It became Czech Radio 1.

5 min

Walk of approximately 5 min.

40 min

Our next stop is a beer garden where artists, skateboarders, students, intellectuals and everyone else hang out. A cool place. It is a beer gallery offering over 400 local beers.

5 min

5 min walk

40 min

We then move on to an active Railway station bar. The place is steeped in history. During communism, it was the heartbeat of subculture activists and anti-regime subjects. It has a very authentic feel of Prague's past and of Prague today. A place you won't find in the guidebooks. Like a time capsule.

Master Storytelling with beer

Darragh was by far the best tour guide of our entire 2 week trip through Central Europe!!! We did a small group Beer Garden Tour with our group of 5 which was outstanding. He was incredibly funny and knowledgeable. A master storyteller which made the trip come to life. Great beer and an amazing lunch. If we had more free time, we would have booked another tour with him in a heartbeat. Any tour. His storytelling was the best.

Operator response

Our guide Daragh is a very open person who told us about Prague, beer places and his life. There was two final surprising experiences. The trip is highly recommended.

Letna

Don’t be put off by “Beer Tour” it’s not compulsory and soft drinks or wine can be chosen. Although we met Daragh in the centre of Prague we straight away hopped on a tram and were whisked across the river to Letna (a lovely suburb) for a burger, chips and a drink. Daragh was a great tour guide and told us so much history. We walked through parks and streets the regular tourist wouldn’t see. The tour included 6 drinks, tram ride and taxi. Oh and not forgetting the compulsory shot of Becherovka!

BOOK THIS TOUR!!

Honestly, such a fantastic experience. I highly suggest this tour for anyone who enjoys a drink or two and loves to learn about the history of the city with a camera to remember the night through not only your own eyes but everyone else in the group as well. Can't say enough praise for this experience.
