The Nilometer was a structure for measuring the Nile River's clarity and water level during the annual flood season.
Its interiors and architecture are a fascinating merging of Ottoman, Moorish, Persian and European rococo styles, while the gardens (still closed to the public at the time of research) are planted with rare tropical plants collected by the prince.
The Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan is a monumental mosque and madrassa located in the historic district of Cairo. The mosque was considered remarkable for its massive size and innovative architectural components, and is still considered one of the most impressive historic monuments in Cairo today.

We had an amazing day with Mustafa as our guide and Ramadan our driver. Mustafa is very knowledgeable and gave us a good understanding of life in both modern and ancient Egypt. A well paced tour with an amazing guide. Thank Mustafa.
We toured the citadel, and mosque as a group. It is a fascinating site, covering many centuries of history. The mosque is beautiful, even if unique and with a byzantine flair. Our guide was very instructive, and being there at sunset gave us a first glimpse of the pyramids.
This was one of our favorite places to visit in Cairo. The mosque as well as palace and throne room is beautiful. It also wasn't so busy so we had the place to ourselves (we went in the morning)
The largest in Egypt until the inauguration of the new (now in March 2023), built in alabastro, has a huge dome, inspired by Ottoman architecture of the time, has a French clock in the open area and inside many lights give an incredible look for photos. High point for the view of the city of Cairo, in days of low smoke it is possible to see the pyramids of Gize.
The alabaster mosque was part of a visit to the citadel of Saladin, although it is the only thing that is visited in the citadel. The mosque has the peculiarity that it is made of alabaster. It has the usual structure of mosques. Looks like it's no longer used religiously because the carpets have been removed. They still force you to wear your shoes or buy plastics for your shoes. It is worth coming to see it, but above all, go out to the garden outside and see Cairo from one of the highest areas
