Our guide Pete was very friendly and knowledgeable, it made for a great day out! Learnt some interesting things and seen some beautiful places, highly recommend!
I had an amazing time on the "Steam Trains, Whitby & the Moors" tour I took with Grand Yorkshire. It was honestly a highlight of my whole time in Yorkshire. The whole trip was good, but I have to give a special shout-out to the driver who accommodated my request for a detour to a nearby attraction that was on my list but I was struggling to figure out how to get to without a car. Truly above and beyond! Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made our adventure through the moors very memorable. I especially liked the small group (only 7 people), which made it feel very personal. I was traveling alone and enjoyed feeling part of a group for the day. Everyone was friendly and up for a chat. This is the only tour I took, so I can't compare, but I would absolutely do another tour with Grand Yorkshire, and would recommend this one to anyone who is on the fence.
The steam train journey was excellent. The minivan trip around the moors was interesting and informative. Our guide was thoughtful and considerate and did his best to answer our questions. His love of his county and community was apparent. We recommend this day trip. One consideration is the size of the minivan. It is a tad on the small side but this did not affect our enjoyment of the day. A very pleasant day out.
I didn't anticipate receiving such personalised service for the price. Chris is available for questions before and during the outing which included a pick up from our airbnb. The vehicle accommodates 7 people, is very comfortable and we all moved seats during the course of the day. The drive took us through beautiful villages and scenery with good stops that were the right timing. Took advice from Chris about lunch in Whitby and had a really delicious sole in butter and lemon. Friends enjoyed yummpy fried fish. The station and the train were interesting and step back in time. Only disappointment was the scenery on the train journey - but it didn't last long. Chris struck a really good balance between talking and just letting us taking in the experience.
Our experience was great. Chris was informative and a safe driver. He has many years of experience and knows the area well.
Great little train ride very nice staff well worth it !
Great tour, excellent guide. Chris is a native of the Moors and knows North Yorkshire intimately. His small group package of 6/7 people allows for a lively exchange of conversation while he takes you on the narrow byways and country roads that larger vehicles cannot access. Penultimate stop is the pretty harbour of Whitby and the best fish & chips you’ve ever tasted. The final steam train journey is a wonderful finale.
Delightful day out with our grandsons and family. Just the right balance with time for the boys to run and explore annd we andults to view the scenery. The steam train was the icing on the cake. This was our second tour with Chris McGee. Just the right tone and so knowledgeable. We’ll let ok forward to the next time.
A very good tour. The guide, Chris, was knowledgeable, personable and very obliging. It was great to see the moors and learn a bit about the history and the conservation. It was a really nice day out.
This trip was wonderful. Our tour guide Chris was very personable and full of facts about the areas we went to. Highly recommended.
