Description

There’s no better way to learn about the history and culture of a community than to eat its food. On our Newfoundland Food Tour, you will walk and eat your way through downtown St. John’s. Newfoundland and Labrador has one of the most unique food cultures in Canada. Long known for seafood, wild game, and delicious traditional meals, the province has a long list of mouth-watering ingredients and recipes. From a CFA finding success selling beloved Newfoundland pastry to a haunted pub that inspired a TV set to a former fruit stand literally built on the ashes of the Great Fire, we’ll explore the people, stories, and food that make the city unique. Come hungry! If you arrive gut-foundered, by the time we finish our walk, you’ll be stogged. And yes...we'll teach you what those local terms mean. ;) PLEASE NOTE: this tour is in St. John's, Newfoundland NOT Saint John, New Brunswick.

Great tour for Foodies in St John’s.

We loved the local variety of food (toutons, flakies, moose burger, ice cream, and fish and chips). Our guide, Tyra, was excellent. She provided colourful history of St John’s and wonderful stories about Newfoundlanders.

Tyra was so knowledgeable about the history of St John’s and Newfoundland! Very enjoyable. The food stops had variety, a good mix between desserts and small appies.

Tyra was an excellent guide, the food was great and varied, we met people from other places and we left cinched!

Operator response

Ha, we love that you left "chinched". Sounds like Tyra and the food did their job perfectly! Thanks so much for sharing, this one made us smile!

We like the 5 day so much we added on for more.

We like our guide Steve Gosse so much we decided to to book the extra time with him. He is that good.

Operator response

We don't have anyone by that name on our team and we don't offer multi-day tours so it seems that you've left your review for the wrong company.

Best Food Tour

Melissa made our food tour a great experience. We visited 6 different restaurants and ate delicious food that was linked to Newfoundland. Melissa explained the origin of each food and told us some of the history along the way. It was very educational and enjoyable.

Operator response

We're so glad that you enjoyed your tour with Melissa. Thanks for taking a walk with us.

Make Sure You Are "Gut Founded" Before the Tour

A great way to see the in and outs of the city, learn about it's history and taste the local fare. The walk was easy and the food varied and plentiful. If you take the tour make sure you are "gut founded" (hungry) before you start!

Operator response

We love that you picked up some Newfoundland lingo along the way. So glad you enjoyed the food, the walk and the history.

Terrific, worth the effort

We learned things we didn’t know to ask about. We heard about a few centuries of history, local culture, and customs, some of the personalities, recent and remote, various edifices and small spots around town, all told with humour and heart. About 10,000 steps with some staircases and hills.

Operator response

"Things we didn't know to ask about" - we absolutely love that! Thanks so much for this lovely detailed review.
