I had a great time cooking with Sasi! While cooking and eating, she taught me many things as my Sri Lankan mother. Sthuthi!
We had such a lovely experience at this cooking class in Sri Lanka! From the warm welcome to the hands-on cooking, everything felt authentic. We recommend highly and our cooking teacher called Kalas was amazing.
We started by going to the store to buy some vegetables that then didn't get used. Then we were taught how to stir fry and chop. The meal itself was nice but nothing special. They promised to send pictures and recipes but they didn't arrive.
It was a very nice experience for us as a couple. We would surely recommend this to everyone. We learned how to cook the meals and they also showed us the plants and Spices. Worth the visit
An amazing cooking experience, Nilla was a great teacher and showed us a variety of great authentic Sri Lanka meals. Would totally recommend!
I went for the cooking class with my son and what an experience it was! Nila, our teacher, patiently explained all the spices used in Sri Lankan cuisine.Clay pots were used .Within an hour there was an array of delicious dishes on the table. We cooked a dal, a bean curry with chillies and coconut milk (not a drop of oil was used for this),a very flavourful chicken curry with pandan and curry leaves and a dry potato dish.My son was delighted with the two coconut sambals he made.We polished it all off with yellow rice which had sultanas in it. I think this was the best thing that I did in Kandy, learning how to cook the authentic Sri Lankan way.Thank you ,Nila! It was convenient that pick up and drop was arranged by them.Value for money!
Firstly, the activity did not start off with a choice of drink. The options are listed as either cocktail, mocktail, coconut water, beer, etc. but all we got offered was a tea. Secondly, I chose the menu that I wanted and had arranged it on whatsapp. I chose this course with this organiser because there were specific dishes that I wanted to learn how to make. But, when I got there, they had selected the dishes - which were very limited, not as many as were listed on the activity page and some of them were dishes I didn't want to make. Also, I am vegetarian and they had chicken as one of the dishes. I don't know whether management didn't pass on the menu or what, but it was very disappointing. Also, a note on hygiene - we were only offered a bowl of water to wash our hands - no soap, sanitiser, etc. You make a lot of the dishes with your hands like squeezing coconut and water to make coconut milk. I had stomach issues the next day. Thankfully the experience was ok overall, as the staff who led the class were very friendly, kind and helpful. However, this class needs to be organised better and be listed accurately, rather than getting hopes up to make certain dishes and not being able to. Also, I had to be the one to message on the day to ask if the class was going ahead as I heard nothing from the organiser. My experience was ok, but I don't think this class is worth the amount of money you pay for it and I've been to classes much better arranged than this.
The cooking school is set in a beautifully manicured garden where all the food is harvested from. The food was amazing and delicious and Nila and Manju were wonderful. I was on my own and had such a personal experience, cooking from a traditional clay oven. This is the best cooking lesson I have had in my travels. Highly recommended!
Great cooking class. Cook Nilla was very nice and let us actively taste during the cooking class. Everything was wel arranged from picking up at the hotel to the final meal! I highly recommend it.
What a great place. Wonderful Spice Garden where we learnt about the medicinal benefits of the different spices. Hands -on outdoor cooking class, followed by enjoying the fabulous Sri Lankan dishes we made. An excellent back and neck massage finished off our evening perfectly. Friendly and helpful staff made it really special for us.
