Spirit of Hervey Bay Whale Watching Cruise

This whale watching trip exceeded our expectations. Our son booked the trip for us as we were visiting from the UK, and he had heard how good the experience was. Firstly the trip out to open waters was smooth and we enjoyed standing on the upper deck with the sea breeze going through the boat. We hoped we would see whales, but we saw more than expected and their behaviours were a joy to watch, we saw pods with babies and the mother and protector whale. A couple of the whales were popping up, and we had one whale with it's fin splashing up and down for a while. Then we were lucky and we had one whale 'tail slapping' for ages, and we got some fabulous pictures by using an SLR camera with a long sports lens. The best thing is the natural environment, the boat didn't get too close, it spotted the whales then rested and let the whales come closer when they were ready, which they did. To see the whales in open water was wonderful. We will remember our day always as I doubt we will ever get to do this experience again.

An excellent half day whale watching. We saw a large number of whales. The boat even has underwater viewing windows. Feels a bit claustrophobic but still good to do for a short period of the trip. Crew were very professional and friendly.

Another fantastic experience with Spirit. We have been whale watching with them for over 15 years and they are the only boat we go on. We always see plenty of whales and the commentary is always informative and the staff are friendly. The 4 levels of the boat ensure you get to see the whales at all angles with plenty of room to move around. We'll see you next year! Roger & Michelle.

The whales and close views of Fraser were amazing! The boat was good but they advertise this on the website and it wasn’t on the boat ‘Hydrophone equipped, we lower the microphone to listen to the whales singing their lovely melodic sounds. Largest Underwater Viewing Rooms with large windows to spy the whales in their underwater world, maybe even get to eyeball one’ Apparently they put a microphone in once but I’m not sure and there was defiantly no underwater viewing rooms.

The crew were very knowledgeable and did everything in their power to create a wonderful experience.

We had a great time on board and saw many whales. They were very curious and came close to the boat. The crew was also very nice and friendly and we received many interesting information about the whales. It was an absolutely amazing experience!

Friendly staff. Captain knew where the whales would be. Boat was clean and plenty of seating inside and outside to view

Wonderful experience we saw lots of whales. Great boat with plenty of space to move around and sit and enjoy the view. Remember your jacket it can get cold outside.
