Crazy traffic, got lost, and a great day snorkeling!

The place is not Pennekamp or at Pennekamp State park! It was Sundriver Station. It is a red and yellow building on the opposite side of the road before Pennekamp Do Not UnPack at the dive shop because you check in there and then drive 5 miles down the road to the boat dock. The circle K and boat dock are on the opposite side of the road when heading south. Not knowing all this information and a traffic accident almost caused me to miss the boat and really stressed me out. Due to the road to Key Largo and traffic situations that happen often plus needing to go to two different places once you get to Key Largo give yourself double the time GPS says it takes to get there. The boat and crew were fantastic. Justin was a super guy and very helpful! Remember if you take your phone into the water with you be sure it stays attached to you or around your neck. My adult daughter’s phone is now at the bottom of the reef somewhere. The crew and others tried hard to help her find it to no avail. We are hoping it downloads to the cloud before it dies. Lol

It was organized ,nice...

It was organized ,nice and on time but it was not at the coral reed at John pennekam Park .you adveritice like this . We ben at the John pennekam before and it is more beautiful and with more life marine . This coral was outside the Park . Also it is said that the snorkle it is not included but it is doesn’t said it is mandatory. It is not fair to makes us but snorkles there . I was fine to do it only with the mask

Operator response

Hello. I would like to clarify a few things. John Pennekamp Park is the on-land state park, the coral reefs found offshore Key Largo are called the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. You must go a few miles offshore to see the amazing coral reefs. This is where we took you. I'm a little confused by your review. Also, Its true, We inform everyone they must use a "snorkel" to go "snorkeling". A snorkel is a device used to "breathe" when your face is down in the water looking at coral and fish. We inform everyone before joining us they can bring their own personal snorkel with them if they choose or if they don't have their own, we can sell you a brand new one for $15 to keep. Again, I am confused by getting only 3 stars, but Thank you for coming with us and it sounds like you still had a good time. Please come see us again soon :)

The snorkeling part was...

The snorkeling part was fun the crew was nice but we paid for the jesus statue tour and drove almost 3 hours each way just to go see that and was not informed until we were out in the ocean at a different snorkel spot that we would not be going to see the jesus statue. It was extremely upsetting as this was one of the most important parts of our trip the captain pointed out to other boats that were going to see the statue and said to us they are going to it it's about a mile on that direction and we are not. If they would have informed us before getting on the boat that they were even thinking about my going we would have went on a different boat

Operator response

Hello, If you read the policy before signing up you will have read that we can't gurantee the statue because we are the first boat out to the statue (9am) and we don't always know the conditions until we arrive to the reef. There is no way to know until actually seeing the reef with our own eyes. There are no cameras nor wind and wave instruments at the reef. Sometimes the wind can be very low but the reef is still too rough. It's a deeper reef to accommodate the large statue so sometimes the swells get very big and it's too dangerous to put people in the water. If we see this as we arrive to the reef we will continue another 5 minutes to a shallow reef nearby that is always calm because it's only around 5-8 feet deep. This is a better option rather than turning around and not going to any reef at all. At the shallow reef you actually see more coral and fish, just not the statue. We are very clear when booking about this possibility. Also, It takes 45 minute to get there and back, So travel time is a total of 1.5 hours, Not almost 3 hours as you stated. If you saw other boats at the statue reef it's because those are "Dive" boats. The divers can still go to the reef when its rough because they go below the surface but our tour is snorkelers that stay "on" the surface so the waves and swells make it unpleasant to snorkel. I am sorry you were not happy we didn't go to the statue reef but it was for your own safety. We try our best to go to the statue reef but it's not always possible. Conditions out in the middle of the ocean change rapidly so we don't know until we actually get to the reef. This is why you were not informed ahead of time. We simply don't know until we get there. We try our best to explain this before booking the tour. I hope you still had a good time with us....

Fourth of July family trip

Awesome time! Definitely worth the money. Captain is very knowledgeable and helpful and friendly. Very easy adventure even if you aren’t a strong swimmer it is very easy to participate. Hardly any effort whatsoever while swimming around the reef. So many types of fish to watch and observe. Absolutely beautiful and worth every dollar and minute.

Carolyn and John were both so friendly! Be prepared to either bring your own snorkel or purchase one from the shop for $15 and coral reef sunscreen! Bring your own towel too!

Amazing Snorkel Tour for First Timers

My dad and I took this tour based on the TripAdvisor reviews and it did not disappoint! We saw so many different fish in the reef and the reef itself was beautiful! The crew was super nice and helpful and the tour was great for families and first timers like myself. Awesome experience and would definitely go again if I got the chance!

The outing itself was...

The outing itself was nice, but you have to pay a minimum of 15 dollars to get a snorkel. And contrary to what we are led to believe on Viator, we only go to one dive site. In total, we spend 1 hour in the water and not half a day at all. The description is misleading!

I would recommend

Crew and staff at the shop and on the boat was awesome!!...couldn't ask for more friendly people....only problem was the grass floating in but that is obviously beyond the control of the crew...mother nature always rules lol
