Hands down one of the best things we did in San Diego! Captain Rhys was awesome—super friendly, fun, and made everyone feel right at home from the minute we stepped on the boat. The sunset was gorgeous, but the real show was the dolphins! We had a whole pod swimming and playing alongside the boat, and it honestly felt like something out of a movie. Captain Rhys made sure we got the best views without ever making the experience feel rushed. The whole sail was the perfect mix of relaxing, beautiful, and just plain fun. Great conversation, smooth sailing, incredible scenery, and dolphins...what more could you ask for? If you're thinking about booking a sunset sail with Sail San Diego, do it! And if you can snag Captain Rhys as your captain, even better. We'd go again in a heartbeat!
We loved our tour. Our guide, Richard, was great! He knew what he was doing, and we felt at ease the entire journey. He gave us a lot of information about the area and what we were seeing out on the water. We spotted many dolphins and got up close with the seals and sea lions. Unfortunately, due to the overcast evening, we didn't get a good sunset, but the view was still beautiful and well worth heading out. The entire experience was so relaxing and made for the perfect start to our vacation in San Diego. We would highly recommend this tour.
Small group was nice. The captain even let me steer the boat! What a great time we had! I highly recommend this tour. Well worth the money!
Dave was a great captain. He listened to us. He had a great experience. He has great taste of music and he was very hospitable.
Great sailing experience. Our captain was a great story teller and had so much information of the Bay Area and sea life. Only suggestion would be for more varieties of snacks.
This was such a highlight of our San Diego trip! The sail boat was so lovely, with so much space in the cabin for snacks, drinks and using the on board bathroom. Our captain Greg was such a delight with our group of ladies on a friends get away! Sunset was perfect and we had so much fun and also saw great sites from the water! Cannot recommend enough, will do this again next time I’m in San Diego.
We had an amazing time on the sunset sail! Captain Rick was so knowledgeable and friendly, making our first experience on a sailboat a memorable one. Would highly recommend!
Pack a jacket! I don't care how hot you think you are, that ocean is an automatic fifteen-degree dip and there is almost never not a wind. Also wear grippy shoes without a slick sole, or be prepared to just kick them off and walk barefoot. The trip itself was really great. It's very quiet once out on the water, and the captain was a font of fun trivia, pointing out landmarks on both the naval base and the cityside and telling neat stories about all of them. Whether we had questions about San Diego, sailing, or the navy, he just about all the answers. Three hours is a long time for just sitting on the water, yes, but just enjoying the sounds of the wind and water forces relaxation upon you. Sailing is like yoga, but with more ropes and pulleys. Definitely a tonic for the soul.
A highlight of our time in San Diego! Captain Dave was a great host. He made everyone feel comfortable on the boat, and had lots of interesting stories and information to share about the area. We saw seals and dolphins, submarines and aircraft from the Naval Base, and a beautiful sunset view of downtown. It was great to be out in the water with a small group instead of one of the big tour boats, and there are plenty of options nearby for dinner afterwards which is convenient. Would definitely sail again!
Was a great experience, sailboat was big and roomy and clean. Reese the captain was awesome!! Very knowledgeable and a great tour guide
