Timings inaccurate, inauthentic, constantly try to upsell

The description of this trip said it was 4 hours duration starting at 1.30pm, that it would be just with a quiet group and that you could enjoy each cenote at a leisurely pace. The reality was that we were picked up at 12.30 and returned after 7pm, making it a nearly 7 hour day. The experience started with confusion as we were told to meet at Selina hostel Cancun - this place no longer exists, so we weren't sure we were stood in the right spot. We were shuttled to a big adventure centre, arriving at 1.30pm. You are then put on what feels like an unnecessary conveyor belt of being forced to speak to multiple staff members trying to upsell you an over priced package of food/drinks and Over priced water shoes. Funnily enough they neglect to mention water shoes on the list of items to take before joining and TBH you can easily get away with not using them. The expectation of being able to enjoy each cenote at a leisurely pace was not met. I think total time spent in all 3 cenotes collectively was less than an hour. Time is wasted at the beginning as we had to wait to about 2pm to round up other peopke from different shuttles doing the same activity as us. You then go on a bumpy truck drive to the first cenote, where I think we had about 15 minutes in it. We walked to the second cenote where I think about 20 mins was taken up on the tequila tasting followed by 15-20mins to enjoy the cenote. For the first 2 cenotes we were the only group there (about 12 of us), so it was quite peaceful apart from the guide intermittently blaring out music from his speaker. We were told we could not use phones and cameras in the cenotes. I challenged the guide for the reason and was told it was because lithium leaches into the water! I call absolute BS on this, if that was the case would it be approved for most of the human population yo be walking around with devices that are dripping lithium everywhere?!  Wouldn't other national parks ban the use of these devices globally?! Funnily enough they have their own photographer who took a camera into the cenotes then tries to charge about $100 for some mediocre photos. For the final cenote we had to get back on the truck. When we arrived there was already anither group there and more people continues to arrive. The quite, peaceful experience certainly was not a thing here. There must have been about 50 people in the last cenote and there was one group screaming and shouting so loudly that it did not make the experience enjoyable.  This cenote also had lots of people using their phones in the water, so the rule about not using them went out the window at this point. I think the actual tour ended bout 5pm then before going home you are forced to sit in their restaurant for about an hour to get your snack, while they try to upsell you food and put on a show that nobody is interested in. I was expecting the snack to be just a quick thing given to you by the guide during the trip, not to spend just as much (or more) time in the restaurant as we did in the cenotes. It is then carnage as hundreds of people are then all trying to find which shuttle they need to go into for their journey back to their hotel  as there were only 2 member of staff directing, what felt like a big scrum of people. As it stands I would advise against this trip and instead get your own transport to one of the thousands of cenotes and do your own thing at your pace. The organisers could make this better with being honest about the timings (there is a big difference between a 4 hour and 7 hour trip). I would cut out the whole restaurant thing and contrived entertainment, so people have more time doing that they paid for - experiencing the cenotes.

Operator response

Hi Lisa, thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience felt different from what you expected, especially regarding timing, pacing, and overall organization. We understand how frustrating this can be when you’re looking forward to a more relaxed and immersive experience. We’re also sorry that some parts of the day, including additional offers and transitions between activities, felt overwhelming. That is certainly not the experience we aim to provide, and we will be reviewing this with our team. Regarding the cenotes, we understand your concerns about the use of devices. These measures are intended to help protect the environment and ensure safety, but we appreciate your perspective. Your feedback is extremely valuable and will be taken into account as we continue improving our experience.

Amazing Experience

Awesome experience! The water temperature was perfect even with it raining a little, which didn’t affect us one bit. We had so much fun here and the food, drinks, and tequila tastings were incredible. Our guide, Aldo, and our waitress, Cynthia were great!

Well worth the price

This experience was amazing. Originally had booked just the Cenote and kept being told at the location that ATV/ziplining was also included, but then was told it wasn't so they accommodated us and charged only $30 extra for ATV since we didn't want to zipline. Mary was out guide for the ATVs and was great. I did not want to drive myself so I rode in the back of Diego, who was a worker. He made me feel safe and asked me numerous times if I wanted to try to drive and he would help me. We then had tequila tasting with Emiliano, who warned us about popular brands of tequila in USA. Had 6 shots of different tequilas; our favorites were the caramel and coffee. Our guide for the cenote was Erick, who was also very personable and had a great playlist of music playing for us. We also received nachos, 3 tacos, and unlimited drinks (margaritas, beer, soda). Overall, our original 2hr trip turned into 6hrs, but it was well worth it and reasonably priced for $90 each.

Very Good

Drinks were super fun! Had the chance to enjoy it privately, even if the waterfall was man made, the surrounding jungle is fantastic, the experience feels good, and for the price it is worth it. Staff like the guide Aldo, or the cooks are super fun!

Disappointed

The waterfall portion is man made using a generator :-/ The cenote is not as pretty as others we have been to. It’s deep in the jungle so the surroundings were pretty. Bats are in the cave which definitely were not my bag. The staff were fantastic and provided a gastric lunch.
