Meet your tour guide for the day in front of the pharmacy next to the main entrance of Siena's train station

180 min

Familiarize yourself with the E-Bikes and equipment before heading out into the Chianti, one of the world’s most famous cycling areas! The assistance from the Ebikes makes biking in Tuscany accessible to all! Easily set the difficulty of your ride and decide whether you would like the bike to do most of the work, or do the workout yourself. The silent electric motor, allows you to enjoy the smells, sounds and tranquility of the Tuscan countryside. Finally begin your ride on quiet roads away from traffic for a 20km long cycle. During the 3 hour ride, cross neat rows of vineyards, pretty olive groves, dense and shaded forests, and sleepy villages along the road. Immerse yourself in the traditional Chianti landscape with frequent stops throughout the morning to take in the views, breathe in the clean air and to stretch your legs.

30 min

Visit a beautifully restored fortress dating back to the 13th century, cited by Dante in his Divine Comedy, an imposing Sienese bastion of defense against rival armies. Monteriggioni is now a fortified town where you can leisurely walk the alleys and squares to take in the medieval charm but also visit the church or local shops of crafts and products.

120 min

Return to your Ebikes for a short ride to a local farm to sit down to a delicious lunch with local wine and extra virgin olive oil while learning about the wine making process. Taste the extra virgin olive oil accompanied by platters of tasty local and seasonal products.  After lunch, pedal the last leg back to Siena train station after a rewarding, up close experience with nature and wine, some of the best that Tuscany has to offer!

The bike ride through the countryside was beautiful and picturesque. We had the perfect cycling weather. Our guide, Dom, was excellent and managed all aspects of the experience with expertise. The only part that was challenging was having to keep pace or find a rhythm with other riders who were not as experienced or struggled a bit with the ride. The lunch, tasting, and vineyard tour was informational and relaxing.

A lovely bike ride in the Tuscan hills with a beautiful lunch and wine tasting. Having an electric bike made the ride very easy. It was my first time on an e-bike and the uphill sections were no problem at all.

Cycling Bliss in Tuscany: Giaccomo, Great Wine, and Gorgeous Views

Our family of four had a wonderful ride and day with Giaccomo - he was a real pro. I can assure all that these are indeed pedal assist electric bikes. (There is just no throttle which would allow one to ride without any pedaling whatsoever). The brief time we spent riding the streets to get out of the city was worth it as the route climbing into the countryside was breathtaking. We wound through postcard-perfect landscapes. Because our group was quite capable, we were able to add a bonus winery stop. Our scheduled visit to Oliviera was absolutely magical. This charming intimate farm and winery is like a scene from a fairytale. Sandro treated us like VIP's - everything from the warm hospitality to the incredible views was exceptional. The wines, crafted with such evident passion and skill, were fabulous, and the lunch served was every bit as memorable - fresh, flavorful, and beautifully paired. I can't wait for my box of wine and olive oil to arrive here in the States! This experience exceeded every expectation. I do have one suggestion though - request a gel seat cover and/or even better maybe the tour operator can simply swap out the streamlined, hard seats with a well-cushioned, wider bike seat.

Buyer beware before booking this tour

When I read about it being an e-bike tour I thought the bikes could propel themselves and you could peddle as much or as little as you wanted throughout the tour. In the US we have full electric bikes and I incorrectly assumed they were the same here. Our guide Dominic was very patient and did a great job explaining the bikes and made sure everyone was ready before we began our tour. We started in Siena and had to peddle up some very steep hills and descend some steep inclines in heavy traffic and stay on the white line to the right. Cars were very close and it was a scary experience for some being so close to the cars and trucks. Once we got into the country with less traffic it was more enjoyable until we hit a gravel road that was difficult to ride with the loose gravel and ruts along the path that lasted about 20 minutes before we got to a smooth roadway again. We stopped for a nice lunch at a working farm with a winery and olive production which is typical in the Chianti region. Some decided to end the tour and take a cab back to the starting point. The tour back was shorter than the first leg, but was very congested heading back into Siena. It was hard to relax in the traffic and it took great concentration to stay carefully on the white line on the right, not hit the tires in front of you and wait for cars and trucks to pass around you when two way traffic cleared. I enjoyed the tour, but I would not have chosen it for several members of our group if I had understood the bikes were only electric assist and not fully electric with peddling optional. Also, all directions in your tour information to the starting point need to have an exact address to enter into our GPS. Some had the train station and the one we looked at to confirm the tour just had 53100 Siena which just led us to the city and not the train station. We ended up being 15 minutes late and held up other members of the staff and guests. If we had had the GPS coordinates we would have been 15 minutes early. If you are not in good physical condition and use to biking over 20 miles I would not recommend this tour. If you are in good physical condition make sure you do not mind riding half the tour in heavy traffic and staying in the far white line to avoid traffic coming up and around you. It is a better tour for experienced bikers and those who can use partially assisted e-bikes.
