Itinerary
The Medici Chapels were built as the personal sepulcher of the Medici family in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, which was considered by the Medici as their private church. In 1520, Cardinal Giulio de' Medici (who would become Pope Clemente VII) together with Pope Leo X commissioned Michelangelo Buonarroti with the building of the Sagrestia Nuova as the mausoleum for the Medici family. The chapel was to form a pendant to Filippo Brunelleschi's Sagrestia Vecchia. Construction began in March 1520 and was finally completed by Giorgio Vasari in 1546, after Michelangelo had left Florence for Rome in 1534. The chapel was to hold the tombs of the two 'Magnifici' and the two 'Capitani' of the Medici: Lorenzo il Magnifico, his brother Giuliano de' Medici, Lorenzo Duke of Urbino, and Giuliano Duke of Nemours (the third son of the Magnifico).

We had a tour booked in the afternoon. When we arrived at the site, it was closed due to the train strike. I reached out to the tour operator and but no one answered (probably couldn’t get to work due to the strike). Fortunately, we went back the next morning and they honored the tickets. It is a magnificent site.
We visited the Medici Chapels during our trip to Florence in May and had pre-booked our tickets in advance. This would definitely be on my must-visit list when visiting Florence. The chapel itself is absolutely breathtaking inside. The craftsmanship, marble work, and attention to detail throughout the building are simply incredible. Every corner feels rich with history, and you can truly appreciate the power and influence the Medici family once had in Florence. The combination of art, architecture, and history creates such a unique atmosphere that it almost feels surreal walking through it. One of the most impressive parts was seeing the beautiful tombs and the stunning design of the chapels themselves. The grandeur of the interior, mixed with the peaceful atmosphere, made it one of the highlights of our trip. Photos really do not do it justice — it is something that needs to be experienced in person. If you are visiting Florence, I would highly recommend adding the Medici Chapels to your itinerary.
It was great to be able to skip the line! I would definitely recommend if you are tight on time and need a quick way to get in.
Beautiful chapel with frescos and crips. The entry was easy and quick. No confusion. We went at 9 so, it was not crowded. It was great easy start to a day of exploring. Right outside the exit, there is a little market with leather and souvenirs.
Kept asking where to go to enter building, no meaningful reply. Sent several emails and messages, replies gave no detail.
Very manageable experience, especially if you're slightly fatigued after all the other visits. Less-crowded and easy to get around. The crypts room is just stunning and has to be seen.
I enjoyed the experience very much. Guide knowledgeable and friendly. Wish there was more time at the museum. I would have preferred to go to the chapel on tour and visit museum on my own as this venue required more time to see everything.
It does not take more than an hr to see the entire thing but it is impressive to see good to do with other nearby attractions
There will be lots of people, just take your time and soak it all in . If you go earlier in the day the crowds aren't as bad
This is a scam ! I never got my ticket/ voucher. I received the email a day before the event and was told that the ticket was not available, but I was charged for it
