Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area. Major attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings. These paintings and statues are related to Gautama Buddha and his life.
The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage site. It is also declared by UNESCO as the eighth wonder of the world. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.
Pidurangala Rock is an incredible 360-degree viewpoint located opposite the world-famous Sigiriya Lion Rock. Hiking to the top is possible for both of these rocks, but hiking at dawn to the top of Pidurangala Rock is a real adventure.

Great country, Sri Lanka vacation tours made us a perfect 12 day itinerary our Guide Rohan driver was helpful and knowledgeable.
This trip was one in a lifetime! Both sites are marvellous, but Sigiryia is particularly unique - and challenging too! To climb all those steps up to the palace ruins in such a wet and hot climate is not for the faint hearted! But it is certainly worthwhile! Also, MAhesh, our driver/guide, was wonderful, very friendly and helpful, and speaks a very good english. I strongly recommend this day trip!
