Walvis Bay is Namibia's main seaport and located between the mouths of the Swakop and Kuiseb rivers on the Atlantic Ocean. On the south side of Walvis Bay is a great lagoon that attracts tens of thousands of birds, including many flamingos. The lagoon, salt pans and the bird sanctuary which form the Walvis Bay Wetlands are one of the most important coastal wetlands of southern Africa. Over 150,000 migrant birds spend the summer months in Walvis Bay and non-breeding palearctic, and intra-African species dominate. Possible sightings include over 150 species of bird that have been recorded in this region. You can see Greater Flamingo, Lesser Flamingo, Great White Pelican, Chestnut-banded Plover, African Oystercatcher, Cape Teal and Black-necked Grebe. But also European and northern Siberian migrants that travel between 10 000 and 14 000 kilometres to reach Walvis Bay each year. On June 30th, we took the Sandwich Harbour excursion with MNG, and it was a great decision! CJ is an excellent driver, the best we could have found, he took us to the two main viewpoints despite the little time we had left due to the rising tide. He has excellent customer service with good explanations and very safe driving. We also enjoyed the lunch in the dunes with a glass of cava very much. Thank you very much, and if we return to Walvis Bay, we will definitely repeat. A hug
Beautiful excursion to Sandwich Harbour. First the flamingos, then the jeep ride between the sea and the dunes, the walk up and down the dunes with a view of the ocean, and also the excellent lunch on the beach. Everything was perfect.
This tour was so much fun. Our driver Jaques was excellent. He talked a lot about the area and was very knowledgeable. We learned so much and got to see flamingos, the salt works and our guide even stopped and chatted with a fisherman and showed us the fish that he had been talking to us about. The 4 x 4 drive on the dunes was so cool. I like the way all the drivers work together to make the tour fun for everyone. The stop on the dunes for a drink and snacks was a bonus. So happy we booked this tour. You won’t be disappointed if you do it.
Very fun riding thru the dunes, they try really hard to make sure you have a good time and see as much as possible.
