Description

Discover Venice on a premium self-guided audio walking tour, designed as a scenic loop of around 2 hours starting in San Marco. Your experience begins at our partner agency, where you are personally welcomed. We explain the itinerary, answer your questions, ensure the audio guide works on your smartphone, and accompany you on a short orientation walk to St. Mark’s Square before you continue independently. The route includes 36 carefully curated audio points, combining iconic landmarks, hidden stories, political history and daily Venetian life. You explore St. Mark’s Square, its Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, historic cafés before experiencing an authentic Grand Canal gondola traghetto crossing, just as Venetians do (paid on site). If you choose the “Private Gondola Ride” option, a 30-minute private gondola ride is also included. The walk then continues through Dorsoduro, home to Santa Maria della Salute, Punta della Dogana and atmospheric streets to St. Mark’s Square.

Itinerary

40 min

St. Mark’s Square & Surroundings (approx. 40 minutes) Step into the heart of Venice with an immersive audio-guided exploration of St. Mark’s Square and its immediate surroundings, brought to life through 18 carefully curated audio points. Discover the story behind Venice’s most iconic landmarks, including St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, and the Clock Tower, while learning how this unique space functioned as the political, religious, and ceremonial center of the Republic of Venice. Along the way, you’ll uncover the role of historic cafés such as Caffè Florian, the importance of the Procuratie, the symbolism of monuments and columns, and the subtle details often missed by visitors. This part of the tour reveals not only the grandeur of St. Mark’s Square, but also the power, rituals, and daily life that shaped Venice for centuries.

Admission not included5 min

Grand Canal Gondola Traghetto Crossing (approx. 5 minutes) Experience Venice the way locals have for centuries with a traditional gondola traghetto crossing of the Grand Canal. Long before bridges spanned the canal, Venetians used these gondolas to cross the Grand Canal quickly and efficiently, just as they still do today. Unlike tourist gondola rides, the traghetto is a simple, functional crossing, often taken standing up, and deeply rooted in daily Venetian life. This short but memorable crossing offers a unique perspective of the Grand Canal, allowing you to admire its palaces from the water while experiencing an authentic local tradition that has remained largely unchanged over time. Please note that this crossing is paid directly to the gondolier on site (€2 per person) and is not included in the tour due to specific local Venetian regulations. This ensures the experience remains faithful to local customs and regulations.

40 min

Dorsoduro District – Art, Light & Venetian Elegance (approx. 40 minutes) Discover the artistic soul of Venice in the elegant district of Dorsoduro, known for its light, open spaces, and refined atmosphere. This part of the tour leads you away from the busiest areas and into one of the city’s most authentic and harmonious neighborhoods. Along the way, you explore key landmarks such as Punta della Dogana, Venice’s historic maritime customs point, and the majestic Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, built as a vow after the plague and symbolizing the city’s resilience and faith. You’ll also pass by some of Venice’s most important art institutions, including Palazzo Cini, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and the Gallerie dell’Accademia. Beyond its monuments, Dorsoduro reveals a quieter, more local Venice, with graceful canals, sunlit squares, and a timeless rhythm that invites you to slow down and observe.

35 min

San Marco District/Sestiere (approx. 35 minutes) Continue your audio-guided walk through the wider San Marco district, beyond the famous square, and discover a Venice shaped by culture, music, elegance, and everyday life. This part of the route reveals a more intimate side of the city, away from the main crowds. You stroll across Campo Santo Stefano, pass by the legendary Teatro La Fenice, and walk near San Vidal Church, today a well-known concert venue. The route then leads you through Campo San Moisè and along Calle Larga XXII Marzo, a street combining luxury boutiques with the memory of Venice’s 1848 revolution. This final section completes a beautiful audio-guided walking loop, blending history, culture, and atmosphere, before gently bringing you back to St. Mark’s Square, where the tour began

No-Show and Zero Communication

Do not book with this operator. The guide failed to show up and left us waiting outside a closed building. When we called him past the scheduled start time, he told us he canceled the tour because we were the only ones who booked. He never sent an advance notice or cancellation message. This is completely unprofessional and a massive waste of time. Avoid this service.

Perfect tour option!

Alex was our guide, very knowledgeable and helpful beyond the tour itself. The self guided audio tour was exactly what we wanted and loved. Alex explained how the tour works, showed us how to navigate the tour app and gave alot of tips for exploring. We walked at our own pace which was great. Sometimes we walk fast and there are times we want to hang back and absorb. We may not gave explored this particular tour route if it weren't for the San Marco Tour with Gondola Traghetto Crossing. We recommend doing this on your first day!

A premium experience

This experience feels carefully crafted and high quality. It’s not something generic you download online. You really feel the personal touch behind it. Everything fits together nicely. A premium experience at a reasonable price. And the small gondola ride Traghetto was perfect.

Traghetto in Venice

A truly local experience, far from mass tourism. The traghetto is used by Venetians themselves, which makes it special. You discover quieter spots and lesser-known stories. It really feels like the real Venice. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something authentic.

Discovering Venice in a peaceful way!

The pace of this walk is just right. It’s enjoyable without being exhausting. We appreciated that it’s designed for comfort, not performance. Plenty of time to enjoy the views and take photos. Very pleasant overall. Nice Traghetto crossing !!

A perfect tour to get to know more about Venice

We did this tour on our first day and it was the best decision. It gave us a clear overview of Venice and its main areas. Afterwards, we knew where to go and what we wanted to explore more. It saved us a lot of time. Perfect introduction to the city. And we live the tiny gondola ride.

A perfect tour

Perfect if you want to experience a gondola without taking a long tourist ride. The traghetto crossing is short but authentic and very enjoyable. You also get a nice walking tour with the audio guide. It’s a great balance between culture, romance, and sightseeing. We loved this smart and well-designed format.
