The tour blends iconic sights with quieter corners, moves at a relaxed pace, and allows time for photos, questions, & conversation. Itinerary
Balboa Park is the cultural jewel of San Diego with architecture, gardens and cultural organizations a-plenty. Keep a camera handy as there are Instagramable spots around every corner.
We'll pause on our walk across the bridge to admire the views of downtown, the San Diego Zoo and the historic highway below.
The California Tower is a landmark not only for the park but for San Diego as well. The nearly 200 foot tall tower was built for the 1915 Panama California Exposition, and the story of San Diego’s founding in it’s ornate facade. We’ll get three great views of the tower, each one prettier than the next.
Originally developed for the 1915 Exposition, this garden was redesigned for the 1935 Exposition off the Alcazar Gardens in Seville Spain
The three theaters in this complex have wowed audiences since the original construction for the California Pacific International Exposition in 1935. Your guide will give you the scoop on getting tickets when shows are in production.
This plaza is surrounded by cultural organizations and places to eat. We'll provide all the details you need to know for further exploration after the tour.
This building was the largest of its kind when built for the 1915 Exposition, and one of four buildings constructed to last past the festivities. In front of it is a historic pond where we will spot koi and other wildlife.
This colorful collection of cottages, built for the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition, house 37 studios and many more artists. You'll have a chance to explore this unique village, and grab a beverage too!
Planted for the 1915 Exposition, this magnificent tree has seen a lot in the century since, and we'll get up close and personal thanks to a new viewing platform.
Named for the founder of the Committee of One Hundred, this fountain attracts children, dogs and birds, plus also has a surprising feature that is activated by the Fleet Center next door.
The home of many cultural and botanical organizations, this building also holds the secrets of how the detailed architecture of the park was created quick and cheap.
The main area of the 1915 Exposition, the ornate buildings hold an interesting history, and some surprising architectural details.

Our guide Jennifer was not only extremely knowledgeable about the history of Balboa Park, but made it very entertaining with her witty humor! Definitely a five star experience and look forward to catching her again on a different tour.
Jennifer was a great tour guide. Very attentive and helpful.
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed the tour and hope all the photos turned out great. Looking forward to see you back sometime!
Linda was awesome and we learned so much! Will be back. We will do more tours with her. Can't wait to explore further.
So glad you had a great time and look forward to your return for more exploring. Thanks so much for joining us! - Jennifer
We had such a wonderful visit and tour. Our group's age range was 4 to 90, and we all loved the pace and stories and experience. Jennifer is full of so many wonderful insights and stories, and took good care of us.
You know it's a good tour, and you were a great group, when other guests mention you in THEIR reviews! So glad the whole family enjoyed it and thanks for letting me be part of such a special celebration! Hope to see y'all back again sometime!
We learned more about Balboa Park than if we walked the grounds on our own. Jennifer was very informative and a great guide. Thank you Jen for a wonderful tour!
Thank you so much — that's exactly the goal! Balboa Park has so many layers that are easy to miss on your own and digging deeper. So glad you enjoyed it and hope to see you back in San Diego sometime!
Good overview of Balboa Park. The guide was very knowledgeable about the park's history. Perhaps walking at a faster pace and more time at the Spanish Village Art Center would improve the tour.
Thank you for the feedback! We aim for an overview of the park and try to pace the tour to work for everyone in the group. And yes the Spanish Village Art Center is such a gem and one of the more popular spots guests return to for further exploration. Thanks so much for joining us!
This was a wonderful experience for our first time to Balboa Park! Jennifer was our guide and she was lovely, extremely informative, and kept our group of 14 organized! My husband and I were in a group with the Sanchez family who were celebrating their father’s 90th birthday and he walked all over the park like a champ! I would highly recommend this tour and we hope that Mr. Sanchez had a phenomenal birthday with his amazing family!! Definitely a “must do tour” when you visit San Diego! Thank you Jennifer!
What a special morning that was! I love that you got to share the experience with the Sanchez family — a 90th birthday celebration in Balboa Park is pretty hard to beat and Mr. Sanchez was an absolute champ. Plus you blended in so well with a much larger group - I think you're part of the family now! So glad your first visit to the park was such a memorable one. Thanks so much for joining all of us and hope to see you both back in San Diego sometime!
Easy to book... several clear reminders of time and place of tour. Good directions. Jennifer was a very pleasant, knowledgeable and organized guide. She gave us a head's up on the Friday's night special at the natural museum with their night-time viewing, and light and delicious dinner on the rooftop terrace. A very nice way to end the day. We loved the history of all that we saw and felt we learned quite a bit. We felt we got a great overview of Balboa Park, and we were able to make mindful decisions for the next day explorations. We even stopped for another refreshing drink at Daniel's :-)
Thank you so much for the kind words! I love when the tour turns into a jumping off point for more exploring — sounds like you made the most of your time in the park. The Friday "NAT at Night" event is one of my favorites and Daniel's never disappoints! So glad you joined and hope to see you back in San Diego sometime!
Had a great tour of Balboa Park with Jennifer. It was a small tour of 4 people which made it easy to hear her and the information provided. There is a lot of history and detail that would be missed if never taking the tour. She drinks provided were a nice treat too. Highly recommend the tour for first timers and for people who have been before to learn more about the history of the park.
Balboa Park has so many layers and I love that the tour works for first timers and repeat visitors alike. So glad you joined on a special visit, and thanks so much for the recommendation! Hope you'll be back again sometime!
Me and my husband booked this walking tour to learn more about Balboa Park, and we could not be happier with the experience. Jennifer was our guide, and she did an amazing job! The tour was enjoyable, informative, and conducted in such a warm and friendly atmosphere. We learned so much about the history and beauty of this stunning park thanks to Jennifer’s knowledge and enthusiasm. The coffee break at the charming Spanish Village Art Center in the middle of the tour was a wonderful and relaxing addition to the experience. We highly recommend this walking tour to anyone visiting the area!
So glad you and your husband had a great time! Balboa Park really does have so much to offer and I love sharing its history and beauty. And the Spanish Village is such a perfect spot for a coffee break (it's one of my favorite parts of the tour!). Thanks so much for the recommendation and lovely feedback, and hope to see you back in San Diego sometime!
