"Discover the Mission Reach, where contemporary public art along the revitalized San Antonio River tells the cultural stories you'll experience at the UNESCO missions. Learn how the stunning murals and tilework celebrate 300 years of indigenous, Spanish, and Mexican heritage - setting the stage for the authentic colonial stories and cultural legends awaiting at each World Heritage mission site."

We visit the Sunken Garden Theater and Japanese Tea Garden, a serene escape with a layered past. Built in an abandoned limestone quarry in the early 20th century, this site was transformed by local artists and craftsmen into a peaceful cultural space. The Japanese Tea Garden features stone arch bridges, koi ponds, and lush landscaping, originally designed in honor of the Japanese-American community. The nearby Sunken Garden Theater, added in the 1930s, became a beloved outdoor venue for music and cultural performances. Together, these spaces reflect San Antonio’s ability to blend nature, history, and multicultural heritage into something truly lasting.

56 Canary Islanders founded a village, "San Fernando de Béjar", after arriving March 9, 1731. They walked nearly 1,200 miles from Veracruz, with children, livestock and all their worldly possessions, for more than six months after a previous six month journey across the ocean in a small wooden vessel. Sent by Spanish King Felipe V, to fond the first official civil government in the province of Texas, they were greeted by a Franciscan friar, soldiers from Presidio de Bejar, and indigenous people of the nearby missions. Today, the village is the City of San Antonio.

Operator response

Dear Robert, Thank you for your kind words about our tour guide — we take great pride in the knowledge and passion our team brings to every experience. We do want to respectfully clarify, because our reputation means everything to us. 5 Star Adventures has never offered an 8-hour San Antonio tour of any kind. The tour you booked — the San Antonio: Alamo, Downtown & Mission San José Van Tour — is clearly listed as a 3 to 4 hour experience, with the full itinerary and duration available at the time of booking. Our only full-day offering is our Fredericksburg Luxury Shopping, History & Culture Tour — a completely separate product. If a full-day Hill Country experience is what you were looking for, we would genuinely love to make that happen for you. As a gesture of goodwill, please enjoy these complimentary photos of San Antonio we'd love to share with you: please text me your email address, and I will send you my favorite tour and special collection of photos as a gift- thank you. Out of nearly 150 reviews across all of our tours, 148 are five stars — because we put our guests first, always. Would give more than 5 Stars if possible!

We highly recommend this tour! Victor was a wonderful tour operator and guide! Very knowledgeable, thoughtful and gracious. The ride was comfortable. We could see and hear well. My husband and I are seniors with mobility issues. Victor could not have been more accomodating. We saw and learned a lot.

Unforgettable Memories !!

This was our last day — and our last tour — in San Antonio. I booked this trip literally at the very last moment before flying to San Antonio, TX, and it was so worth it! The tour was absolutely fabulous from beginning to end. There were snacks, water, fruit, and cookies provided, and Victor even took us to a coffee shop per our request. He is such a caring person! Victor arrived right on time and asked if we had any reservations later in the day. Because of the marathon, many streets were closed or detoured, which affected the tour, so he suggested returning to downtown once the marathon was over. Thankfully, we didn’t have any other plans, and Victor made a few adjustments — changing the order of the stops and even adding a couple of new places that weren’t originally included. We learned so much history about the Spanish missions during these hours. Victor is incredibly intelligent and extremely knowledgeable. He’s engaging without being overwhelming, entertaining, informative, passionate, and clearly an experienced guide with a great sense of humor. On top of this unforgettable experience, Victor also sent us “gift photos” of the missions and “SA family photos” with us at those locations! What a thoughtful touch — such a wonderful idea. I highly recommend booking a tour with Victor. You definitely won’t regret it!

Operator response

Thank you so much for this incredible review. I loved spending the day with you and I’m grateful you chose to finish your San Antonio trip with my tour. The marathon made things tricky, but your flexibility let us turn it into something special. I enjoyed adjusting the route, adding extra stops, and sharing the missions in a way that fit your day. I’m glad the stories, snacks, photos, and small touches made the experience meaningful for you. Hearing that you left with unforgettable memories means a lot to me. Thank you again for trusting me with your final day in San Antonio. Safe travels and I hope our paths cross again.

Victor Made the San Antonio Missions Come Alive – Highly Recommend!

We decided to take our first trip to San Antonio to unwind, explore the city, and celebrate our anniversary. My wife was so thoughtful and booked a tour of the San Antonio missions, knowing how much I love history. Victor was fantastic! He was not only informative and funny but also incredibly engaging. He shared the history and significance of the Spanish missions in a way that made it feel like a fun adventure, not a lecture. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and a highly experienced tour guide. My wife isn’t usually a history buff, but she had a blast on the tour. If you’re in San Antonio and interested in history, I highly recommend booking a tour with Victor. You won’t regret it!

Operator response

I hope to welcome you back to San Antonio for more memorable experiences soon!

No hesitation, rush!

Great visit, great guide! To do without hesitation. Activities included very interesting with bonus kindness of guide

Operator response

Cordialement, Victor Martins 5 Star Adventures USA San Antonio, Texas

Incredible Tour Guide!

Mr. Victor Martins, Jr. is an awesome tour guide. My wife and I had a blast with him and we learned so much history about the many Spanish missions in the San Antonio area and the Mission San Antonio de Valera , aka The Alamo. I highly recommend this tour guide to all.

Operator response

Thank you for the wonderful review. Guiding you and your wife through the Spanish missions was a joy. I am glad the history resonated. Mission San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo, is always a powerful stop. Your recommendation helps our small local company grow. I would love to host you again on our Downtown Alamo Legends Walk or a Hill Country day. Victor Martins, Owner and Guide, 5 Star Adventures Texas
