This is one of those churches of Salvador that one must visit even though they are not of the Catholic religion. Preserving its history linked to slaves, the cult liturgy makes use of music inspired by Candomblé's terreiros, to the sound of atabaques. In the back of the church, there is an old slave cemetery. This church is celebrated every Tuesday a Catholic mass that incorporated some of the elements of African culture, such as singing and dancing.

Excellent tour knowledgeable guide. Very fluent in English. Unfortunately the Afro Brazilian Museum was closed. But gained a good understanding of the history and culture of the city.

Great Guide, But Limited Access: Sunday Tour Challenges

I booked a tour for my clients, and they mentioned that the guide was great. However, since it was a Sunday tour, most of the places were closed.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. Before the tour reservation, we made it clear that the tour would take place during the Carnival period in Salvador. As such, there were limitations due to street blockages, as well as closures of monuments and museums, which we had informed you about. We even suggested rescheduling the tour for another day, but you preferred to keep it for Sunday afternoon. We also attempted to reach out via the agency that made the reservation to discuss any concerns but, unfortunately, we were unable to get in touch. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding. Best regards, Your Tour Brazil Team

To discover the authentic soul of Salvador

The tour is very interesting! Our Guide (Nelson Guia, in Portuguese, but he prefers his African name) exceptional: he speaks 13 languages and made us breathe Salvador's African roots. Very cheerful, helpful, very Expert in the city! We were not at the museum, but we had a great lunch overlooking the sea in a favela. Driver and car top! Thank you, thank you!

Great time with Wilson!

Wilson was an excellent tour guide. He was so passionate and knowledgeable. We absolutely loved our time with him. We even ran into a couple of his family members on the tour, and someone he tutored, which made the tour even more fun and exciting. Wilson is the best.

Wonderful time visiting Salvador de Bahia

Stepping into that church will always stay on my mind forever! Also listening to the guide describing the story of the religious statues in the lake moved me. I will definitely come back for a longer visit.

Would not recommend- Mis-sold tour

Be weary booking this tour- I would not recommend it. I booked this tour thinking I would go to the Afro museum and Benin museum (the museums were the only reason I booked this experience). The Afro museum has been closed for months now and the tour agency knew this- they waited until I got into the car on the day of the tour (and could no longer cancel) to tell me this and ‘substituted’ it with a trip to a market I did not want to go to and did need to go to. The Benin museum was also closed and they should have checked this before the tour commenced. Bearing in mind I paid £120 for this tour and got nothing out of it. I was conversing with the agency days before this was supposed to take place and they had ample opportunities to let me know the museum was closed so I could cancel and get a refund. At the same time as booking this tour I booked another to see the upper and lower city so everything I saw during the Afro tour was what I saw the next day during my city tour. I reached out to the agency and requested a 50% refund (as I had a guide and driver and knew they had to be paid) and they in no uncertain terms told me I would not be getting one. I have now passed this onto Viator who I hope will refund me as the tour was a complete rip off and was mis-sold. In addition I did not get to go to Elevator Lacerda or Mercado Modelo.

Operator response

Hello good day, Unfortunately we do not agree with your position, you~re informed about the replacement of the museum by another museum and the inclusion of the Afro fair, and you accepted, we gave you the opportunity to not take the tour, but to receive 100% of its value, I must also clarify that the your tour was a private service, and at the end of it, strangely to this comment, you praised our guide our driver a lot and everything done, including what was not included in your tour as afro food and so it was done.

Fascinating Salvador Tour

Truly incredible tour. The tour guide knew so much and was able to answer all my questions. I liked that I got to see a lot of sights and learn a lot of interesting history in a short amount of time.
