Once in a lifetime experience!

A difficult hike but made better with our guides Yeferson and Joyce! The food prepared by Valberto along the way was great! The views and atmosphere can’t be beat.

A trip we’ll remember forever

This was an amazing trip! Alpaca Expeditions has a well-organized business for every aspect from reservations to pickup at our hotel to handling luggage and proving experienced guides and amazing meals. They have a clear structure in place to educate and train employees. Our guides Edward and Raymundo gave us so many insights into the culture and historical significance of the things we were seeing. Even down to showing us a citronella plant in the wild we used to ward off some mosquitoes. They are passionate about the area and provide clear explanations of expectations. This aspect of the passion of our local guides made AE stand out among the other companies we saw on the trail. The trip itself takes you through vast sceneries of cold, desert-like mountains, past bountiful agricultural areas and jungle areas, and finally to Machu Picchu. The accommodations provided enough for us to rest. We loved looking at the stars the first night in the glass cabana. We could see them through some of the panels in the glass domes. We do wish we could have had more time at the Hobbit House. We got there right before dark and left before sunrise. The higher-end hotel was perfect after 4 days of hiking. You couldn’t believe the amount of food prepared by our chef Alfredo and his crew. Truly, some of my favorite meals of our whole Peru trip. All of it made with the freshest ingredients. I could go on with specifics, but you should book this trip and get the experience. Finally, I will add as someone who lives closer to sea level, this was a physically challenging trip, so after dinner most of us went right to bed. In August the sun sets early here anyway. But, you do need to be physically prepared. And don’t forget good socks, sunscreen (especially at Salkantay pass), and bug spray. We were very lucky to have an amazing group of 16 travelers. Most were groups/couples of kind and friendly 20-somethings. We had 2 family groups. It will be a trip we remember forever.

Probably first night at the glass cabins seeing shooting stars.

Can't get any better! Amazing days with a great group of hikers. Javi and Hans were the best tour guides we could ask for. Worth to mention the food, OMG! excellent quality and quantity.

Great experience

We are so happy we booked our Salkantay trek with Alpaca Expeditions. The logistics were so well organised and the staff - our guide Wilbert and our cooks Avelino and Eusebia - were absolutely amazing! Wilbert had so much knowledge of the local area and taught us a lot about the geography and history of the places we visited. He allowed us to go at our own pace and supported us the whole way through. The hike is not an easy hike due to the altitude and the elevation, so you need to be in good physical condition and acclimatised to the altitude. Some sections are also narrow with steep drop offs and the trail was affected by land slides in some areas. It made me feel safer knowing our guide knew the trail very well and had oxygen in case of an emergency.

Super good experience with 5 day Salcantay trekking!

Very good experience with Wilber! Through Alpaca Expeditions. Have a nice trip, brisk hikes, clear explanations and good help if necessary from Wilber. Pick up and drop: fine. There was also daily SUPER good food from the cooking team, Avelino and Eusebia. Wow. Absolutely recommended!

Great trek, guide, food, natural sights and historical/cultural experience.

Amazing scenery, very interesting historical and cultural insights given from our guide the whole way, a physical and mental challenge - but you feel supported the whole way. Everyday you are rewarded with stunning natural sights, glaciers, lakes, mountain ranges, beautiful sunrises, stars in the night sky. To top it off the food is amazing. This company supports local guides, porters, chefs and horseman. Would recommend, but disclaim some areas of the track need improvement after landslide and also river bridge crossings. We were okay but need good balance and no fear of heights to navigate this sketchier sections. Depends on your risk tolerance.

A great experience and great guides

An absolute 5-star experience from start to finish. Our 5-day Salkantay Trek with Alpaca Expeditions was incredible, entirely thanks to our amazing guides, Frank and Edwin. They were highly attentive to everyone's safety and comfort. They managed the group's dynamics perfectly and kept morale high through the experience. Frank’s knowledge of the history was incredible, they are both true professionals who genuinely care about their hikers. I couldn’t recommend the trek enough!

This was honestly the trip of a lifetime. Our guides were Frank and Edwin and they made this experience absolutely amazing. They were constantly helping us out when needed, and were very knowledgeable on all the topics covered. I saw both guides go above and beyond to help our group have the best experience possible. This trip wouldn’t be the same without you, thank you so much!!

Fantastic hike in the Andes!

We did the four nights and five days Salkantay trek. In the trek participated 13 hikers and two guides, Sergio and Issac. Our guides were very professional, friendly, patient and motivating!! Even though we were on high attitudes, the cooks still provided us with delicious meals. On the trek, the faster hikers could go with one guide ahead, whilst the slower hikers were accompanied with the second patient guide at the back. We regretted to not be able to stay at the hobbit houses for an additional night because the place was so beautiful. Also our co-hikers made the experience fantastic, all were very supportive and we shared many laughs. The trek with the beautifil scenery was the highlight of our three-weeks in Peru!
