Description
Discover the landmarks of Salalah and the natural wonders of the countryside in one trip on your stop with a cruise or when you have limited time. Start with the visit to Salalah´s landmarks the Great Mosque and Palace al-Husn. You will also explore the traditional al-Haffa market - the best place to buy frankincense, perfumes, and shawls. Then enjoy coconut drink in Salalah´s plantations and inspect the irrigation systems. Leave the city to discover the Jarzeez spring surrounded by rock formations and caves. Next, drive up to the Ittine heights for panoramic views of Salalah and Jarzeez valley. After the descent from the mountains, you reach the spectacular Mughsail Beach. On its one end lies a serene lagoon frequented by flamingos. On the other, the cliffs of the Qamar mountains loom out on the horizon. Under the imposing Marneef cave you will have the opportunity to wonder at water fountains gushing from the blowholes in the cliffs.

Visit to the interior of the great mosque of Salalah. Excellent example of Omani architecture and design - carved doors, chandeliers, carpets, calligraphy in plaster.
Stop at the main gate of the Palace, taking photos of the clocktower and surrounding gardens
Inhale the scent of the best frankincense and other fragrances and perfumes. Shopping for the traditional items like incense burners, basketry, Omani national dress and other souvenirs.
A short walk in the vast plantations where you can explore the irrigation system watering coconut palms, bananas, papayas and many other fruits and vegetables. You can also enjoy drinking the coconut water and tasting various fruits in the local stalls.
Discover the natural site of the spring surrounded by limestone rock formations and caves. You can see the spring water running in the irrigation channels all year round.
Have a short walk on the fascinating sandy beach at Mughsail. The beach has a beautiful lagoon at the eastern end where you can spot herons and flamingoes.
Explore the captivating Marneef rock formation created by millennia of erosion processes. Under the Marneef rock lay the renowned blow holes where at high tide the sea water gushes out of the gouges in the cliffs.

The tour itinerary itself was fine and covered the main attractions well (although East Salalah seems more picturesque). However I was a little disappointed by my guide (Karel), although he was entirely polite to me and full of factual and numerical information about the area he made a few comments about the local Omani population that I found distasteful and spent quite a lot of time on his phone. Examples of the comments include "They go to school but don't learn much", "Its unsettling for Europeans to see how the women dress here, they are covered and look like they are dressed for a funeral" & "The Omanis don't have much entrepreneurial spirit, they aren't good entrepreneurs", even if you think those things are true I'm not sure why anyone would say them out loud. I came away without a local feel for the area and culture and with the impression that he wasn't really passionate about Oman and was there just to make money. Shame.

With some time lag I can not imagine I could visit Salalah and did not manage this trip. This trip gave us great opportunity to recognise beauty of Oman, its differences and specifics. The trip was very well prepared and our guide had very good knowledge of Omans culture but also nature. We could place any question and we got the answer. I can recommend it. We were very surprised that we were on all sightseeing points totally alone. We have really enjoyed it.

We spent a week in Salalah in February 2020 and were looking for a private tour company. When we came across Takamul Tours, contact was very easy via WhatsApp with extremely friendly manager Karl. We decided on 4 tours and were accompanied by Karl himself, who did an excellent job! He could answer all our questions and was always looking after our well-being.
