Description

The Perito Moreno Glacier Tour with Safari Azul is the perfect choice for anyone wanting to experience the Perito Moreno Glacier up close. You can either choose the option with transfers from El Calafate or arrive at the port on your own. The tour includes a 20-minute boat ride across the Brazo Rico of Lake Argentino, followed by a 30-minute walk through the Patagonian forest until you reach the glacier’s edge (note: you won’t be walking on the ice). You’ll have some free time to take in the breathtaking views before heading back along the same trail. The return boat ride takes you along the front of the glacier’s impressive southern wall. If you choose the transfer option, the tour also includes a stop at the Perito Moreno walkways before heading back to El Calafate. LIMITATION: Only suitable for people from 6 to 70 years old. Ready to enjoy an unforgettable day?

TOUR WITHOUT PICK UP
  • Meeting point: Puerto Bajo las Sombras

Itinerary

60 min

Pick-up in El Calafate If you chose the pick-up option, you’ll be picked up from your lodging in El Calafate at the scheduled time. Once the entire group is assembled, you’ll head to Los Glaciares National Park. Meeting and boarding at Puerto Bajo Las Sombras If you opted out of the pick-up, you’ll need to make your own way to Puerto Bajo Las Sombras, located within Los Glaciares National Park. From there, you’ll board a boat to cross Lago Rico. After about a 20-minute ride, you’ll get off on the opposite side, right at the glacier’s edge.

180 min

The hike starts with constant views of the glacier’s southern face. Watch out—there could be some ice falling! Get your camera ready to capture the stunning shades of blue and white and the glacier’s unique formations. When you reach the glacier’s edge, you’ll have free time to soak it all in and take photos. Afterward, you’ll return to the boat following the same path. *The hike takes about an hour and a half and goes over natural terrain with sand, rocks, some inclines, and stairs.

Admission not included120 min

If you booked the tour without pick-up from El Calafate, the tour ends when you return to the port. However, since you’re just 7 km from the Perito Moreno walkways, we suggest you take some time to visit them. If you chose the pick-up option, once you arrive at the port, you’ll take a bus to the Perito Moreno walkways. Use this two-hour stop to have lunch and enjoy the amazing panoramic views of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

60 min

After a full day exploring the glacier, you’ll catch the bus back to El Calafate. The Perito Moreno Glacier Blue Safari tour usually wraps up around 5:00 p.m., depending on your scheduled time.

What are we celebrating?

Why visit a glacier? As a consumption or as a beauty to behold? On a recent visit, I was saddened to see how the falling ice lived as an attraction, almost to celebrate or laugh. And more: practices such as touching, taking, or even consuming fragments did not seem to be discouraged; rather, they were allowed to pass. Where is the information on climate change? Where are the clear messages of environmental respect? When I pointed it out, the reaction was more rejection than listening. So the question remains: what link with nature are we building and promoting?

Operator response

Howlanders Team

Bus, Boat, Boardwalk and Crashing Ice

This tour gets you up close to the Glacier without actually walking on it. It’s conducted both in Spanish and English on the bus and the boat. The walking portion of our tour at the Glacier itself was split into English and Spanish speaking guides. The guides on the tour were very informative and had command of English. The walking tour near and on to the edge of the glacier was outstanding! Bring your lunch and a drink and enjoy this beautiful sight.

The best excursion of Calafate touching the Perito Moreno Glacier

Excellent!!!!! so much cuter than all glaciers ... here you touch the Perito Moreno glacier, you sail seeing the walls, you walk the coast over the brunettes and explain everything very well

Great tour, informative guides

Great tour, informative guides. Plenty of time allowed on viewing platform walkways and long walk alongside glacier after the boat ride traversed the face of the glacier. Allowed us to see the glacier from every angle and to understand why this is deservedly such a popular site. Very professional driver who drove comfortably.
