Rhodes: Butterfly Valley & Seven Springs Nature Day Trip

Discover the two most popular nature attractions of Rhodes Island - Butterfly Valley, and Seven Springs Valley with our convenient transfer to both sites in one day. Spend 2 hours exploring Butterfly Valley, where during July, August, and September, you can spot Panaxia quadripunctaria butterflies, walk along shaded paths by the Pelekanos River, see waterfalls, and observe the endemic Potamon rhodium freshwater crab. Then, head to the East Coast for 1 hour and 45 minutes at Seven Springs, where you can continue a light hike through lush scenery, enjoy a café lunch by the springs, or venture through a narrow underground tunnel to a hidden artificial lake with an impressive dam and waterfall. Pickups are provided from designated pickup points in Faliraki, Rhodes City, Ixia, and Ialysos.

The attractions themselves weren't that interesting for me and my young family but we still had a great day due to the fantastic driver Apostolos. He had so much to show us and talk about rhodes while being very entertaining.

Our driver Apostolos was at every pick-up and departure point right on time. He made it very cozy on the bus, made jokes and told all kinds of things about Rhodes along the way. Both the Butterfly Valley and the 7 Springs are worth seeing. Take plenty to drink, because it is very hot.

The day trip was great, both the butterflies and the springs. But the highlight was our driver Apostolos. He had a lot of interesting things to tell, and the way he presented them was simply funny. We had a lot of fun with him, and I hope you are just as lucky with your booking as we were.

Whilst the butterfly valley is worth a visit if you don’t want to sit on a coach and waste 90 percent of your day book a private transfer from your hotel which is just as cheap, it’s only worth staying for a couple of hours max. Seven springs is rubbish, the tunnel was okay but not worth the 1 hr and 15 it took to get back. All in all I wouldn’t recommend, especially seven springs as there’s nothing to do and the signage is shocking. Also we were expecting a tour which this wasn’t, it was just an expensive and long transfer.

Our tour is described as a non-guided nature day trip rather than a guided tour, and the full itinerary, driving times, duration at each stop, and what to expect throughout the day are all clearly outlined in the tour description before booking. This allows guests to decide whether the experience matches what they are looking for. As with any excursion visiting multiple locations across the island, there is naturally travel time between each stop. Whether travelling independently, by private transfer, or as part of a shared coach tour, the driving distances remain the same. Our aim is to provide a convenient and cost-effective way for guests to visit both Butterfly Valley and Seven Springs in one day without the need to arrange their own transportation. We appreciate that Seven Springs may not appeal to everyone, as each guest has different interests. Many visitors, however, enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings, woodland walks, the famous tunnel, and the opportunity to experience a different side of Rhodes. Thank you again for your comments. Our bus driver was excellent, he was a great driver and funny, made the arrangements very clear for pick up. The butterfly valley was beautiful, a lot of steps so wear good footwear and be careful - there are a lot of tree roots and uneven paths but handrails too. At the restaurant at the top, the toilets are 50c so make sure you take some coins, the restaurant won’t change money so take actual 50c coins. It’s the same at the bottom when you’re finished, there is an ATM though. The walk to the Seven Springs is one to be careful, stay close to the left on the way up, watch where you’re walking, very uneven ground, the actual 7 springs were a bit of a let down, it’s a dam with 7 outlets of water coming into an area below where you can paddle and get photos, we didn’t go down. Walking through the tunnel and river is quite exciting, pitch black, not very wide but an experience none the less, you can walk in bare feet but we look crocs. We had a drink at the top (we brought sandwiches) but didn’t go to the restaurant, I was anxious about getting lost and left 40 mins to get down but needn’t have worried, look for the sign ‘Lake Tunnel’, and follow the river to the main road which took 10mins.

The whole experience was fantastic. Easy pickup and good communication when they were running five minutes late. Apostolos was a brilliant driver who gave us a tour as we drove. We even got to stop to feed the fish and deer! The Valley of Butterflies was beautiful, though it is very uphill when hot! The Seven Springs was great to explore.
