A once in lifetime experience! Oliver is exceptional. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and enjoyable. We did 3 separate tastings at 3 separate wineries. French was exclusively spoken at all 3 wineries, but Oliver was able to seamlessly bridge the gap for our group that only spoke English. His expertise in the terrain, climate, grapes, AOCs, and history was stunning. Lunch was also phenomenal. You get what you pay for, and this experience is well worth it.
Hi Stephen. Wonderful review thank you so much! It was a great pleasure to spend the day with you my friends. Olivier
Olivier is an incredible guide to this beautiful region. He shared his extensive knowledge so generously and we learned so much from him. He took us to 3 different wineries, each with their own unique characteristics, and we tasted a wide range of wines reflecting each specific terroir. We had a delicious lunch overlooking the Rhone and drove to an incredible viewpoint of the river and the Hill of Hermitage. Along the way we shared great stories and quite a few good laughs. An absolutely outstanding day. Thank you, Olivier.
Excellent wine tour hosted by Olivier and we all had a great day. We also enjoyed a great lunch recommended by Olivier.
An unforgettable day exploring the Northern Rhône, a region where dramatic granite slopes define its exceptional wines. This tour was a deep dive into the area’s heart, perfectly paced with a great selection of producers. From the elegant Côte-Rôtie to the powerful Hermitage, and the fascinating history behind labels, we experienced the true essence of each appellation. A must-do experience for anyone passionate about wine!
Olivier was a great tour guide. He was enjoyable to spend the day with and has a deep understanding of wine and wine production. With Olivier you get not only a driver and scheduled wine visits but in depth discussion of the wines and regions visited as well. Highly recommended for those who appreciate wine and wine region exploration.
We had the pleasure of spending a full day with Olivier exploring the beautiful Vallée du Rhône, and it was, without a doubt, the highlight of our trip to the region. Our tour included visits to three vineyards, two of which were in the famed Côte-Rôtie area. It quickly became clear that Olivier’s relationships with these winemakers run deep—these weren’t standard tourist stops, but personal connections. We had the impression that each vineyard welcomed us as a favor to Olivier, which made the experience feel truly special and exclusive. Olivier’s knowledge of the Rhône Valley, its history, culture, and especially its wines, was exceptional. I have always loved Côte-Rôtie wines, but seeing where the vines grow—on steep, rocky hillsides, baking in the full sun—has given me a new appreciation for them. I also now fully understand where the name comes from! Each vineyard was incredibly generous, not only with their tastings but also with their time. They shared insights into their winemaking process, the challenges of the business, and the family traditions behind their bottles. Between the tastings, Olivier brought us to a charming little bistro for a delicious lunch (with, of course, more wine). The tour was truly a full package: pick-up and drop-off right from our accommodation in Lyon, comfortable travel between locations, and engaging conversation throughout. Time in the car with Olivier was a pleasure—beyond wine, we spoke about French culture, family life, and even shared some laughs about his years living in Montreal, which made the day feel even more personal. This wasn’t just a wine tour; it was a day immersed in the people, places, and stories that make the Rhône Valley unique. Olivier’s expertise, warmth, and personal connections elevated the experience well beyond our expectations. Worth every penny and then some. Merci, Olivier!
We had a fantastic trip. Olivier was excellent - he was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and regions, it was like having a master sommelier give us a private tour. For not much more than a group or larger tour, this is definitely worth the extra. The wineries were very interesting and the scenery was amazing Olivier’s English is perfect for any English speaking people considering this. I would definitely recommend this is a great option to see the Rhône valley or his other destinations.
We had an amazing time with Olivier! The wine was so great, and he was very knowledgeable. I would definitely do it again!
Absolutely superb experience with Olivier on this tour. The vineyards visited and the people there were authentic and together with Olivier's vast experience and knowledge we had a really great time touring Northern Rhone.
If you're even thinking about booking the Rhône Valley Wine Tasting Private Day Tour from Lyon — stop thinking and just do it. Our crew of four (two couples fueled by curiosity and caffeine) was scooped up from our hotel by the one and only Olivier — wine whisperer, history buff, part-time philosopher, and full-time legend. From the get-go, Olivier had us hooked. He’s the kind of guide you dream about: charming, hilariously self-deprecating (he blames his existentialism on growing up with Nirvana — fair), and so connected with the local winemakers that we felt like VIPs everywhere we went. He dropped knowledge on Rhône wines, local geology, and even shared stories about the Chauvet Caves — aka the Prehistoric Sistine Chapel. (Olivier, we’re rooting for you to finally make it there in person!) Olivier’s English was excellent — clear, engaging, and sprinkled with just enough playful twists to make his storytelling even more entertaining. Every explanation, every joke, every bit of history came with flair. And his personal stories? Gold. We especially loved hearing about his “saintly” wife and their beloved “little princess.” At lunch, we hit up Olivier’s favorite hidden gem (Le Quai?). The food was incroyable, and the view! A peaceful, postcard-perfect look at the Chapelle du Lycée Gabriel Faure across the Rhône River. Not your average wine tour lunch stop — this was the kind of moment you want to bottle up and keep forever. Then came the wine. Oh, the wine. Our favorite stop was at Famille Daubrée - Corps de Loup, where we met Loupiot — the bottle of Côte-Rôtie we would have gladly taken home as a fifth member of our group. Smooth, elegant, and just a little wild... basically the Beyoncé of wines. In short: this wasn’t just a wine tasting. It was a perfectly curated adventure, led by a guide who’s part entertainer, part historian, part local legend. We laughed, we learned, we sipped, we swooned. If you're lucky enough to land a tour with Olivier, consider your trip made.
