Itinerary

60 min

Explore Quang Phu Cau Incense Village, famous for its vibrant displays of incense sticks laid out in beautiful formations. Enjoy unique photo opportunities as villagers craft incense by hand, visit local workshops, and learn about the traditional production process. Interact with local families to better understand Vietnamese daily life, religious practices, and cultural beliefs.

Admission included120 min

Experience Tam Coc Ecotourism with a relaxing two-hour sampan boat ride along the Ngo Dong River. Known as the “Halong Bay on land,” Tam Coc is home to three natural limestone caves. The journey offers tranquil views of rice fields, limestone mountains, and ancient temples, passing through Hang Ca (first cave), Hang Hai (second cave), and Hang Ba (third cave).

Admission included60 min

Visit Mua Cave (Hang Mua), one of the most popular attractions in Ninh Binh. Walk along the pathway to Lying Dragon Mountain and ascend around 500 steps to the summit viewpoint. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the Ngo Dong River, rice paddies, lotus ponds, and the surrounding countryside. The climb is steep and takes approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on individual ability.

Admission included90 min

Visit Bai Dinh Pagoda, a famous spiritual landmark within the Bai Dinh–Trang An Ecotourism Complex, boasting more than 1,000 years of history linked to the Dinh, Early Le, and Ly dynasties. Situated west of Hoa Lu Ancient Capital in Gia Sinh Commune, the site is conveniently located near Trang An, Mua Cave, and other major attractions. Spanning 539 hectares, the complex features both the ancient Bai Dinh Pagoda and the modern pagoda area. As the largest Buddhist pagoda complex in Vietnam, Bai Dinh Pagoda is an essential stop for visitors to Ninh Binh.

Admission included90 min

Discover Trang An, known as the “Halong Bay on land,” where dramatic limestone karsts rise above tranquil rivers, lush greenery, and ancient temples. As Vietnam’s only UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for both natural and cultural value, Trang An offers a truly unique experience. Spend approximately two hours on a traditional sampan boat, gliding through scenic waterways to visit a variety of caves and temples.

Admission included50 min

Travel approximately 100 km south of Hanoi to discover Hoa Lu Ancient Capital and Tam Coc, two highlights of Ninh Binh Province. Hoa Lu was Vietnam’s capital between 968 and 1009, beginning with King Dinh Tien Hoang of the Dinh Dynasty, who founded the nation of Dai Co Viet. The capital later remained under the Early Le Dynasty before being moved to Thang Long (modern-day Hanoi) by King Ly Thai To in 1010. Today, visitors can explore two historic temples built on the grounds of the former royal palace, honoring King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh, and gain deeper insight into Vietnam’s early feudal history.

Admission included35 min

Enjoy cycling through Ninh Binh’s scenic rice fields and rural communes, offering a closer look at daily life in the Vietnamese countryside. This optional activity is free and available for guests who would like to take part.

Admission included30 min

Nestled into a limestone mountain, Bich Dong Pagoda is a tranquil cave pagoda dating back to the 15th century. The site features three tiers—Lower, Middle, and Upper Pagodas—harmoniously built into the rock amid lush rice fields. Accessed via a stone bridge and a short climb through caves and shaded paths, the upper pagoda offers sweeping views of the surrounding karst landscape and countryside, making it a peaceful and scenic stop.

Great "Sunny" Day

Our tour guide Sunny and his driver picked us up punctually at our hotel. The first stop was Quang Phu Cau, the incense village. There, you can observe the entire production process of making bamboo incense sticks at various specialized family businesses. Sunny is very knowledgeable and explained everything to us. Afterwards, we stopped for coffee and then continued on to Mua Caves. At the foot of the mountain, there is a lotus plantation, cafes, and restaurants. Sunny accompanied us up 500 steps to reach the summit with a great view of the valley, the river, rice paddies and Ninh Binh city. We continued on to Tam Coc with a lunch stop at a modern restaurant offering a multi-course menu. With Sunny, we took a sampan boat for a 1 1/2 hour river cruise. We made a stop along the way and Sunny showed us a spot where we could take some very nice photos. Afterwards, we drove back to Hanoi. Sunny was a very pleasant, knowledgeable, English-speaking guide whom we would highly recommend.
