Itinerary

30 min

Ramla Bay is located at the bottom of a rich and fertile valley on the northern side of the island of Gozo. The village of Xagħra, located on one of the hills of Gozo, overlooks this valley. The terraced walls built by the farmers give the valley an appearance of a quilt when viewed from the high ridges surrounding it. Ramla Bay is renowned for its golden 'red sands'. This beautiful sandy beach offers the perfect spot to cool down and take a quick dip during the Summer months.

Ġgantija (Maltese pronunciation: [dʒɡanˈtiːja], "Giantess") is a megalithic temple complex from the Neolithic on the Mediterranean island of Gozo. The Ġgantija temples are the earliest of the Megalithic Temples of Malta and are older than the pyramids of Egypt. Their makers erected the two Ġgantija temples during the Neolithic (c. 3600–2500 BC), which makes these temples more than 5500 years old and the world's second oldest existing manmade religious structures after Göbekli Tepe in present-day Turkey. Together with other similar structures, these have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Megalithic Temples of Malta.

10 min

Xlendi is a village in Malta situated in the south west of the island of Gozo. It is surrounded by the villages of Munxar, Fontana and Kerċem. The village is administered by Munxar,[1] but has its own coat of arms and motto. From March 2010, Xlendi has had its own 5-person "mini council" responsible for the main activities of the area.

10 min

Xlendi Tower (Maltese: Torri tax-Xlendi) is a small watchtower near Xlendi Bay, within the limits of Munxar on the island of Gozo in Malta. The tower is one of the Lascaris towers and dates to 1650; it is currently undergoing restoration. It is the oldest of the four surviving watchtowers on Gozo.[a] The earlier Garzes and Marsalforn towers were destroyed in the 18th and 19th centuries.

30 min

Dwejra, with its dramatic coastal formations and sea spilling over the rocks, is a magical attraction. Here you can swim in the spectacular deep sea of the bay, in the calm shallows of the inland sea or in the foamy waters around the Blue Hole – one of Gozo’s top dive-sites. Dwejra is also home of the Fungus Rock or, as it is locally known, “Il-Ġebla tal-Ġeneral”, General’s Rock. It is so called in remembrance of the Italian General who centuries ago fell to his death while supervising quarrying in the area. History tells us that a special plant believed to have medicinal and healing properties used to grow on Fungus Rock and because of this the Rock used to be heavily guarded during the era of the Knights of Malta. Anyone caught stealing the crop was sentenced to death or to a life rowing the Knights’ galleys. The crop was picked and brought to the mainland using a primitive system of baskets and pulleys.

30 min

A small enclosed bay at Dwejra Point is connected to the open sea through a large tunnel stretching approximately 80m. The walls on both sides are deep, vertical and overhanging for most of the way. This tunnel is only 6m deep at the start of the dive, immediately dropping down to 15m, and halfway through, the seabed is at 25m. The view as you look out into the deep indigo blue of the open sea is spectacular. Around the corner to both left and right, there are further vertical fissures and caves in the cliff face to be explored, while the marine life in this area is prolific.

10 min

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu (Maltese: Santwarju Bażilika tal-Madonna ta' Pinu) is a Roman Catholic minor basilica and national shrine located some 700 metres (2,300 ft) from the village of Għarb on the island of Gozo, the sister island of Malta. The church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu. The basilica is located in open countryside which allows visitors to enjoy beautiful views of the area and is of great national importance to Gozitans everywhere.

Marsalforn (Pronounced: Marsa el-Forn, | Maltese: Marsalforn),[1] also written as M'Forn for shortcut purposes, is a town on the north coast of Gozo, the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago. The town lies between the hill-top towns of Xagħra and Żebbuġ. Associated with this town there is also the bay of Qbajjar. The town forms part of the locality of Żebbuġ. Marsalforn is one of the most popular tourist resorts on Gozo. It is well served with hotels, guest houses, restaurants, bars, and beaches. There is only a one small sandy beach in Marsalforn, however, along the rocky coastline there are a number of interesting swimming spots. Also, there's only one police station in Marsalforn.

30 min

The Cittadella (Maltese: Iċ-Ċittadella), also known as the Castello (Maltese: Il-Kastell),[a] is the citadel of Victoria on the island of Gozo, Malta. The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, and the site now occupied by the Cittadella is believed to have been the acropolis of the Punic-Roman city of Gaulos or Glauconis Civitas. During the medieval period, the acropolis was converted into a castle which served as a refuge for Gozo's population. A suburb began to develop outside its walls by the 15th century, and this area now forms the historic core of Victoria. The castle's defences were obsolete by the 16th century, and in 1551 an Ottoman force invaded Gozo and sacked the Cittadella.

20 min

This beautiful church boats the 3rd largest dome in Europe (75m high). It is modelled on the Santa Maria della Salute Church in Venezia. The 'Church within a church' was built around the smaller, former church, which was meticulously dismantled and is now a musuem inside (small donation required to access museum, and the lift to access the roof where you can walk the perimeter of the dome and get a birds eye view of Gozo. The church took 20 years to build - as was funded by public money. A church 'for the people and by the people'.

Good way to see Gozo

We booked as a group of 5 adults. Our guide Godwin was great - really informative and friendly. We managed to see a lot of the island including the inland sea boat tour - you need €5 cash per person. A decent lunch was included and there were other opportunities to buy snacks and souvenirs. We needed at Ramla beach so I.recommend taking a towel and swimmers.

Mixed Experience with Room for Improvement

We recently took a Gozo jeep tour with Gozo Pride Tours. While the day allowed us to see a good amount of the island and some beautiful scenery, overall the experience was mixed rather than exceptional. Travelling around Gozo by jeep was enjoyable and gave access to locations you would not easily visit independently. We stopped at several coastal viewpoints, beaches and Victoria itself, although time at some locations felt quite limited. One disappointment was that groups are restricted to five passengers per vehicle, which meant I was separated from my partner for most of the day. This was not explained when booking and would have been helpful to know in advance. Communication during the tour was also inconsistent. Our driver spoke mainly in Polish and there was very little information shared in English with some passengers. In addition, due to the noise of the open jeep while travelling, it was often difficult to hear the driver clearly anyway. A useful improvement might be the introduction of a simple audio or listening system, where passengers could hear commentary about the history and locations being visited in different languages. This would greatly enhance the experience, as at times we found ourselves simply looking at places without understanding their historical or cultural significance. During the tour we stopped at a bay where an optional boat trip was offered at an additional €5 per person. The boat ride itself was enjoyable, however it would have been better if this extra cost had been made clear beforehand. We also visited a local café offering tastings of olives, sun-dried tomato paste and local sausage, which was pleasant. Lunch, however, was disappointing. The three-course meal was fairly basic, portions were small, and only one glass of wine and water were included. Considering the overall tour price of around €80 per person, the meal did not feel particularly good value. Overall, the tour provides a convenient way to see Gozo in a single day, but clearer communication, better explanation of sites, improved meal quality and transparency regarding extras would significantly improve the experience.

Joe z amazing guide and reliable company

Off to a great start, with a pick up in an air conditioned van. We got on a boat that held 24 others and got to Gozo quickly so I found those 2 things worth it. It was less people, more space and seamless flow!!!! Then we continued to have a private tour (of 2) with JOE.Z. He is priceless! We enjoyed his humour, knowledge, experience, we felt comfortable and safe. A real gem of a Maltese man! Our vehicle was a can am - very comfortable for us. (Its a larger “buggy”) Joe offered us options and we really left it up to him. I liked not having to wait (as you do on tours) for others and deciding as we went along. It was the perfect choice for us…. And to Joe Z much gratitude for making our day on Gozo a great time! On the way back again every thing was seamless from boat to van return. And the boat did drive by Camino and caves. We feel the value was worth it and recommend this tour.

Fantastic Day with George

We had a fantastic tour with George around Gozo last week. We are a family of 3 (2 mid 50s and 1 mid 20s) and the tour catered to all of our interests. George was a fantastic tour guide, and included a range of different stops from churches, to caves / landforms (for my Geography interests), and lovely villages. He often volunteered to take our photograph, and completely catered the day to our wants / needs. Nothing was too much! George even recommended a vegan ice cream parlour for myself and ensured that the restaurant was aware of our dietary requirements. The meal included was good, and the restaurant catering for vegan and vegetarian diets. The transfer from the hotel was efficient, as was the boat crossing. We sailed by Comino Island and the Blue Lagoon on the way home, stopping to allow us to take some pictures. It was a great day for all 3 of us, and we can’t thank George enough for his kindness. and for welcoming us to his home of Gozo.

Disappointing and totally overpriced!

Far too expensive! 270 euros per person! If you book this trip as a single person it also costs 270 euros! So we should have each had a jeep and each had their own guide! What is this pricing policy? The only good thing about this tour was the guide - and lunch was also ok! Everything broke in between even the jeep so you had to wait for replacement! Round trip transfers from the port were made in a bus without aircondition - but fully staffed of course! Our conclusion: never again!
