Start your day by visiting the Benedictine Monastery and discover its amazing history. Montserrat literally means “sawed mountain” in Catalan, and it is called this due to its multi-peaked rocky range. This is the holly mountain of the Catalans and home of the "Black Madonna" a XIV century romanesque sculpture of the Virgin Mary, patron saintness of the Catalans.
Once you have visited the Benedictine monastery, get to Sant Joan Funicular and ride it up the mountain to enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views over the multi-peaked rocky range and the monastery. From here we will try to spot Barcelona and the Pyrenees.

This mountain is very special, it is not high altitude, the autumn winter is more comfortable, there are some buildings at the foot of the mountain, some of the history of Napoleon, and some of the history of the revolt at the time.

The monastery is lovely, but my favorite part was hiking the trails and exploring the viewpoints. Geologically interesting, as well as historically influential. A rewarding day trip in every way.
