Description
The Charyn canyon is a breathtaking place in the Tian-Shan mountain branches, which origin dates back to the Neogene period. The unique monument of nature, which is often compared to the Grand Canyon in the United States, is located 200 kilometers from the city of Almaty. The landscape of the area is systematically changing, thanks to which the territory of the canyon was chosen by many representatives of flora and fauna, including individuals listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. The most prominent and memorable places of the great gorge are the Valley of Castles, the Ash and Turang Groves, the Charyn River. The Eco Park operates on the territory of the Charyn canyon, where visitors can visit the mini-zoo, go on an off-road safari ride and quad bike, try a traditional Saka bath and have a tasty lunch at local cafes.

The Charyn Canyon is located in the Charyn National Park about 215km east of Almaty and approximately 3 hour drive. After reaching canyons parking area, tourists are walking down 1,5 km by Valley of castles and through unforgettable view of rocks to the Charyn river.

The trip was cancelled at the last minute with no explanation or offer of some other option. I would have expected a call or a text. I don't understand how it is possible to 'check availability' and go through that step without there being any availability
Worst experience ever. The tour operator never responded. Our trip was canceled. They wasted our whole day in Almaty. Viator has to tie up with better tour operators in Almaty, the ones right not are unreliable.
We had a great trip with an excellent local driver/guide who spoke English well. It was very nice to be able to talk to a local person and also learn about their daily life. It is a long drive to the Charyn Canyon but he made it entertaining, even with a song at the end!
This was my second visit to Almaty. I did it only because of the excellent hospitality provided by them, especially Miras. He ensured clarity, punctuality, professionalism, safety and above all absolute enjoyment during our entire trips (both times). He tried his best to accommodate every wish and we will definitely visit Almaty again for sure
