We booked a custom tour with Visit Meteora: transport from Ioannina (2-hours each way) and a 4-hour visit to the monasteries. I can not say enough wonderful things about our day trip! Booking: Communication was excellent. I reached out to the tour operators directly for a quote via email. Responses were fast and easy and clear. Including booking terms and license information. Deposit, full payment, and refund timelines were very reasonable. Additional communication and confirmation the day before the tour was also very appreciated. Logistics: Visit Meteora arranged a truly wonderful driver and car to pick us up in Ioannina. The driver arrived on-time in the morning with a nice clean sedan. The trip was safe and very comfortable. Once we reached Kalambaka, we also met up with a fluent English-speaking tour guide for a visit to 3 monasteries and a number of other scenic/historical viewpoints. The driver navigated difficult roads and parking, while the tour guide led us to each monastery and coordinated with the driver so we were ready to be picked up once we were done at each spot (at our own pace). The guide took some great photos for us. We had a bit of time for lunch in Kalabaka before returning to Ioannina. Value: The price was VERY reasonable for a 4-hour-drive and 4-hour private tour with driver + guide. We learned SO much about the history of the sites and the area... from the founding caves, the building of the monasteries, WWII impacts, and modern day. Our guide was a historian and botanist and geologist. Brilliant. We loved both the guide and the driver! This was one of our most memorable experiences in Greece. We truly thank this company, the guide, and the driver for an excellent experience. Highly highly recommend!

The excursion met expectations. The use of the bus, instead of the private vehicle, allows you to avoid parking and be left right in front of the monasteries, avoiding even the prior search for those opened on that day.

L’utilizzo del nostro mezzo, invece di un veicolo privato, è pensato proprio per rendere la visita più comoda e fluida: evitiamo le difficoltà di parcheggio, accompagniamo gli ospiti direttamente all’ingresso dei monasteri e ci occupiamo noi di pianificare l’itinerario in base ai monasteri aperti in ciascun giorno. Unique experience. Fantastic and mystical place. With more time on my hands I would have also done the sunset experience and the visit to the remaining monasteries. The visit is easily organized on your own if equipped with a car. More than Kalambaka I would start from Kastriaki where there is the first geographically allocated monastery, Agios Nikolaos. Once you have visited the monastery (very steep and tiring climb), with ticket payment to date, September 2025, equal to € 5.00, the other monasteries are in sequence and well indicated. Road uphill, but well paved. It is advisable to inquire about the times and days of the monasteries that you can visit. In one day three monasteries can be visited. The hike is easy, but not without sacrifices. Spectacular photos. Don't worry about clothing. Ladies, if you think you are not appropriate in the way you dress, the attendants will provide you with skirts and scarves. Highly recommended.

Our private tour of the Meteora monasteries was fantastic. Jim, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about not only the monasteries and the area (as he grew up around Kalambaka) but also about so many other subjects. He was great interacting with our 16 yo daughter and 14 yo son. We didn’t feel like tourists, but guests.

We recently traveled to the Meteora area from Athens using Visit Meteora for private transportation to and from Athens. The entire experience was flawless. We had a wonderful driver, Demitras (sp?) who picked us up promptly in Mercedes passenger van and drove us to our hotel in Kastraki. We also joined the sunset tour and the hiking tour. Both were fabulous! Driving back to Athens was via Delphi, where Visit Meteora arranged for a private tour of the ruins and museum. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. I highly recommend spending time at least two nights in the area and using Visit Meteora to make you stay and transportation more enjoyable.

First, this is the second Meteora tour we have taken with Visit Meteora Travel. This second tour was just as wonderful as our Meteora Sunset Tour. Evan, the tour guide, was warm, welcoming, and certainly an experienced hiker as well as knowledgeable about the local plants, fauna, and history of the Meteora monasteries. He has such an easy-going personality so it easy easy to converse with him and learn more about Meteora and Greece in general. The small group was the perfect size to ensure access to the tour guide and also allow interaction among the other guests. My wife thoroughly enjoyed our Meteora Hiking Tour with a visit to the monasteries!

A beautiful historical place of mountains and Monastery built by hand on steep mountain top +400 years back. The scenic beauty needs to be experienced. To walk up the mountain is a challenge. But, worth it! We enjoyed the sunset view. Our family Reached Meteora from Athens by Bus at 6am. Still managed to see 3 Monasteries incl 1 Nunnery.
