Xochimilco is one of the most emblematic places in Mexico City and a World Heritage Site. In this experience you will sail aboard a colorful traditional trajinera for about 1 hour through its canals surrounded by chinampas (floating islands). During the tour you can enjoy live music (mariachis, trios or marimbas), buy cravings, flowers or crafts from other trajineras, and soak up the festive atmosphere that characterizes it. It is a time to relax, take unique photos and live a centuries-old tradition. Our guide will explain the origin of this site and answer any questions. An ideal activity for all ages, perfect for those looking for a connection between nature, culture and the living history of Mexico.

60 min

After the ride in Xochimilco, we will move to Coyoacán, one of the most beautiful and traditional neighborhoods of Mexico City. Our guide will take you on a walking tour to discover its cobblestone streets, squares, colonial churches and spaces full of art and culture. You will know the history of this iconic place, its famous characters, and you can visit its famous market where you will find crafts, books, typical sweets and dishes such as toast, churros and hot chocolate. Plus, you’ll have free time to take photos, explore on your own, or just relax on one of its colorful benches. Coyoacán is the cultural heart of the south of the city, with a bohemian and welcoming atmosphere that will make you feel like in a small town within the big city.

Admission not included15 min

We finish with a very special stop in front of one of the most visited places in Mexico: the Frida Kahlo Museum, also known as La Casa Azul. This tour includes an outside stop so you can take a photograph in front of its iconic cobalt blue facade and learn about Frida Kahlo’s life, her home and her artistic legacy. If you just want to take your picture and listen to the guide's explanation, the estimated stop time is 15 minutes. In case you want to enter on your own, you must have a previously purchased ticket, and the tour inside the museum takes about 1 1/2 hours. Admission is not included in this tour, but our guide will be able to guide you if you decide to return another day. An ideal stop to bring you a unique memory of the most iconic Mexican artist.

Great time for group of 10

Pedro was our driver and he was great! Our large group of 10 had a wonderful time and he was a delight. He also helped us manage the ordering for everything we needed and all our extra bathroom stops. The trajinera ride was a lot of fun and they even helped us get a trajinera customized with our birthday boy’s name. Would recommend!

Poor communication

Transportation to and Fro Xochimilco was convenient, but that’s about it. This was the most boring tour I ever went on Viator. I’ve booked multiple trips on Viator and this is the worst so far. I learnt nothing about xochimilco, Coyoacán or Frida’s house on this trip. Please don’t book this trip if you are truly wanting an informative guided trip.

Operator response

Hi Toyosi, I hope you are doing great! I´m so sorry to hear about this inconvenience but please take into account that you chose our basic plan and we brought you a private tour. The trajinera man and our operator tried to give you all the information about the zone but it was difficult to them you didn´t put attention in the explication, maybe you weren´t in the mood. However you were antipathic to our operator and we didn´t know about what was the problem with our operator or our service. Again we are so sorry for this inconvenience and that the tour wasn´t as expected for both of us. We will improve to avoid this ratings in the future and manage better this difficult situations.

Highly Recommend, Great Tour!

We had such an amazing time on this tour! Pedro was an excellent guide! He picked us up on time and went above and beyond to accommodate our stroller. The boat ride was so beautiful and peaceful. There were local vendors that sold food and drinks on the ride! We had about 1.5 hours to walk around the town to Coyoacan, which was such a cute town, I just wish we had more time to spend there. We had just enough time to eat some lunch at a local restaurant called Mi Compa Chava (Best Seafood I have had in my life). Overall the whole experience was worth it and highly recommend.

Xochimilco. Company was good

Our driver was great. On time and concerned about our event. The Xochimilco gardens that we saw on this outing were not so great. A longer tour out of the commercial chaos might be a better choice.

Operator response

Thank you for choosing us, in the canals of Xochimilco its main attraction is the party atmosphere, where you can take excellent photos and enjoy food, drinks or a good mariachi, we also have the option of private tours where you pass through quieter channels, thank you very much for your opinion.

Very Disappointing

Guide did not speak English at all well. Further he could not explain why Xochimilco was worth visiting and other basic facts.

Operator response

Tom, We really tried to give you a really good experience with all the indications and the help that we could bring, however you weren´t in the mood and the tour unfortunely wasn´t as expected. Please keep in mind that every tour is important to us, as our driver knowledge and good speaking (in English). We will do better because we want to improve at every tour.

The Unexpected Trip

This trip was not at all what I expected (in a positive way!). Guillermo (our tour guide) was great! I want to make it known that our guide was in Spanish. Let me start by saying Guillermo text me the night before to confirm our pick up location and time. The morning of our trip he text me to let me know he would be arriving soon. His car was very clean and well kept. He has great driving skills and got us safely to all our destinations. My mother enjoyed the trip and so did I. **Guillermo was with us for almost the entire trip. The only time we separated was when we were in the church.

Xochimilco and Coyoacan

I felt safe in the transfer, kind people. Guillermo who was in charge of the transfers, very helpful, respectful and knowledgeable of the city. The walk through Xochimilco very fun and interesting, Francisco rower of the trajinera was very attentive and enjoyable , all looking for us to enjoy the maximum experience Coyoacan : a very eclectic neighborhood, and many places to have lunch or just have a drink , unmissable visit the Church San Juan Bautista and the artisanal vintage of many types. We really enjoyed Mary’s ride and follow-up to Arc Tours, before, during and at the end of our tour.
