history, culture, scenery and wildlife

I just love this jungle! The visit to Polonnaruwa followed by the Minneriya safari was one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa is so peaceful .. Walking among the ancient ruins, preserved temples, and Buddha statues felt like stepping back in time. The Minneriya safari is in an unspoiled and magical environment. Lunch at Alimankada Resort & Restaurant was a truly unforgettable experience. The delicious buffet offered a great variety of authentic Sri Lankan dishes. The setting is breathtaking. Dining by the peaceful lake, surrounded by nature and watching water buffaloes wandering nearby, felt incredibly authentic and magical.

Amazing trip to a lost kingdom, with fantastic traditional Sri Lankan food at the end

Polonnaruwa is an amazing place with so much to see, it feels like a lost kingdom hidden in the rainforest. Our driver, Gayan, was great and took us to all the main sites, it's at least 3-4hrs of sightseeing. By the end we were quite hungry so he took us to an amazing restaurant in a small village near Polonnaruwa, with buffet-style traditional Sri Lankan food, which was one of the highlights of the trip. Can't recommend enough!

Beautiful Place

Overall, it was a great experience in a beautiful place full of culture. The sights and atmosphere were truly memorable. The driver assigned to us was friendly and responded to our requests, which we appreciated. However, he seemed a bit rushed and drove quite fast, which made parts of the trip feel less relaxed. He also came across as slightly lazy at times. Still, the destination itself made up for it, and I’d recommend the experience.
