Itinerary
The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. During puja(offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists. However, you don’t actually see the tooth. It’s kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size. As well as the revered main temple, the complex includes a series of smaller temples, shrines, and museums.
Climb the hill by Kandy Lake to reach Kandy viewpoint and receive a view of the city that cannot be beaten. As a popular tourist spot, the area brings in a large number of peddlers, though they often sell sub-par items. The area also has a reputation for high pickpocket activity, so keep an eye on your belongings. From the hill, you can enjoy great views over the lake and the city as a whole.
Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake in the heart of the hill city of Kandy, Sri Lanka, built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth. Over the years, it was reduced in size. It is a protected lake, with fishing banned. There are many legends and folklore regarding the lake. One such is that the small island at its center was used by the king’s helm for bathing and was connected to the palace by a secret tunnel.
Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, also known as Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium , is a cricket stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. In July 2010, The Central Provincial Council in Kandy announced plans to rename the stadium to honor the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan but hasn’t officially done so yet. The stadium was opened on 27 November 2009 and became the 104th Test venue in the world in December 2010.
These stunning gardens were once reserved exclusively for Kandyan royalty. Today, even commoners are allowed in to enjoy the most impressive and largest (60 hectares) botanic gardens in Sri Lanka. Highlights include a fine collection of orchids, a stately avenue of royal palms, the extraordinary, aptly named cannonball fruit tree and 40m-high Burma bamboo. Another big hit is the giant Javan fig tree on the great lawn, with its colossal central trunk and umbrella-like canopy of branches. Peradeniya is 6km from central Kandy.
Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, has a long history as a port on old east-west exchange courses, administered progressively by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. That legacy is reflected in its engineering, blending pilgrim structures in with elevated structures and shopping centers. The monumental Colombo National Museum, committed to Sri Lankan history, outskirts rambling Viharamahadevi Park and its mammoth Buddha.
Kandy is an enormous city in focal Sri Lanka. It's determined to a level encompassed by mountains, which are home to tea estates and biodiverse rainforest.

This is a full on day tour which started with collection at 6.00 and finished being dropped off 2000hrs only. It is a long day but if like us you have limited time in kandy then it is ideal. Our tour guide was funny, friendly, professional and gave us a lot of engaging explanation to make the experience come to life, especially around the temple tea plantation, Elephant orphanage and many more . He was always happy to answer questions and has a lot of knowledge around the places you visit. The time spend at pinnawala was the best part of the day by far, and it is an experience not to be missed. The stops at the craft workshop, tea Factory, herble Garden are useful to break up the journey and there is no pressure to buy anything from anyone. The Axio car is brilliant, really The driver is really good considering the traffic they had to contend with and whilst you spend about 4 hours on the car, it is comfortable and as pleasant as it can be.
