The Roman Theatre of Cádiz is an ancient structure in Cádiz, Andalusia, in southern Spain. The remains (only partially excavated) were discovered in 1980. The theatre, which was likely built during the 1st century BC and was one of the largest ever built in the Roman Empire, was abandoned in the 4th century and, in the 13th century, a fortress was built on its ruins by order of King Alfonso X of Castile.
According to classical tradition, the Phoenician temple of Moloch/Kronos was located on this island during ancient times. On this small island is the Castle of San Sebastián, which took its name from a chapel built in 1457 by the crew of a Venetian ship, which obtained permission to stop at this place to cure the plague that had affected them. The Venetians, to build this temple, used the remains of an old lighthouse, replaced in 1613 by a watchtower, which in addition to serving as a guide for sailors had defensive functions. The lighthouse was rebuilt in the 18th century and in 1908 it was replaced by the current structure. This castle is connected with a bridge in the middle of the ocean where you can enjoy walking and contemplates the waves
Our guide will walk with you along La Caleta Beach, with its golden sands and calm waters, La caleta is a tranquil oasis nestled between historic landmarks in Cadiz.
The castle represents an important example of military architecture of the Modern Age and has survived to this day without major changes. It has a star-shaped plan with two well-defined fronts: one formed by triangular bastions that rest on the beach and the other open towards the city, where the only gate of the enclosure is located, protected by two bastions and a ditch, which regulated the Level of water through locks. An access bridge to the simple gate, protected by an upper guardhouse, under which is a commemorative plaque commemorating the completion of the works, during the reign of Philip II.
Parqe Genoves is a botanical park located next to the faculty of Philosophy of the University of Cadiz The local guide will show you the garden that contains more than 60 types of plants from all over the world and will be also explaining the history of this park.
This avenue is located on the wall near the bay and has been one of the busiest places in the city since the 17th century. Throughout history it has undergone several renovations, but the one that gave it its current appearance was carried out in 1926. It follows the eclectic taste of regionalism and highlights the distribution of a varied succession of rooms, decorated with Sevillian ceramics and wrought iron elements that do not prevent you from enjoying of the sea view.
The Monument to the Constitution of 1812 is a monument in Cádiz, Spain that commemorates the centennial of the signing of the Constitution of 1812. The monument, commissioned in 1912 and completed in 1929, is located in the centre of the Plaza de España in Cádiz.
The walls of San Carlos, are located, raised by the sea, next to the Plaza España, in the old town of Cadiz. Its construction was completed in 1784 by the military engineer Antonio Hurtado. This bastion could house 90 artillery pieces and contained 55 vaults for different uses. In some of these vaults, wells were built to store the snow that was brought from the mountains of Cadiz.

“We did the walking food tour with Ali, it was wonderful , his knowledge of Cádiz really brought the city to life. The meeting point was easy to find and everything was very well organised from the start. Cádiz is an absolutely beautiful city, and thanks to Ali we discovered so many hidden gems and local spots that we would never have found on our own. Our meal at the end of the tour was quite delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the time spent with Ali in Cadiz and would highly recommend
Thank you so much Elaine for choosing our tour. Ali really enjoyed showing you the charm of our city and explaining you about our typical food of Cadiz. Wish to see you soon in another city!!
Luis made us feel like we were one of the locals! He was not rushed, and very informative. He took the time to answer lots of questions and cater our tour the needs of our group. Our group ranged in age from 20s to 60 and everyone loved him. The feast at the end of tour was delicious. A wonderful memory!
Thank you so much Laura for choosing our tour in Cadiz Luis also had great time showing you and your family the charm of te city and taste its delicious food . Hope to see you again in our beloved city :))
Viator relies on local suppliers and promises you anything just to sell you the service, but unfortunately, the local supplier is not able to follow through! I had requested a guide in Italian and a full dinner; the issue with the Italian language emerged before the experience because I was contacted by the guide in English... there was no way to resolve the issue, so we had a tour partly in English and partly in Spanish. The disaster was the arrival at the 'restaurant': the guide who was with us was attacked because we were late; they even said in front of us that they would no longer be able to apply the agreed 30% discount. After this embarrassing situation, we sat down and were told that we could only order tapas! We spent €120 each for a few hours of walking tour and a couple of tapas... I had organized everything myself to surprise a friend who was celebrating his birthday. I had been advised about certain foods that we could not eat and had requested the cake with candles. In the end, we ordered other things and paid the extra. Our guide, a young man, was more embarrassed than we were... in short, I felt cheated and could not even get angry with the local supplier who showed evidence of having followed through on the agreements with Viator!
Hey Gloria, I'm replying to make it clear to our next travellers, We have contacted you to confirm your tour after you booked it and we have explained that we don't offer an Italian speaking guide in our tour and this is clear in our description of the tour. You said no problem and asked for someone who speaks both English and Spanish as you were 4 people and 2 speak English and the others Spanish which means extra time spent in the tour but we haven't charged you any extras for service and time. You have asked for a bday cake we accepted and we informed you that it would be on the house so you don't have to pay for it. Once you are in the restaurant you wanted to ask for main courses while our guide kindly and me as coordinator were clear that you have booked and paid Tapas tour which we also generously serve food in it. You have invited people on dinner using our tour which is a combination between the service and the food so it wouldn't be possible to spend what you have paid us just on food. You were shown Cadiz and spent 3-4 hours with our guide then had dinner but it's not our problem if you exaggerate ordering food and we were clear about it ahead of time. this is what happened with you that's why you had to pay the difference. What happened in the restaurant from the waitress side was unprofessional towards our guide but you it was a misunderstanding. You were angry before your arrival to Cadiz and during the tour also, and then you have called me and spent an hour on the phone after your tour I apologized on behalf of the restaurant and for not meeting you expectations which was a waste of time and energy, but truth to be said this is a profitable company a we are professionals and we are always training our guides to give the best. Our description is clear IF YOU BOOK THE TAPAS TOUR YOU WILL BE SERVED TAPAS
Ali is prompt and polite, with lots of interesting information about the city, both historic and contemporary. He had a recommended route, but gave us options if we wanted to see things in more detail. His recommended choices of tapas that represented the area was appreciated.
Hey Monica, Thank you for your review. Ali also had great time showing you Cadiz and enjoyed explaining about the city and it's delicious food :)) Hope to see you in Cadiz again
This was a great tour and we would do it again. We had some very basic knowledge about Cádiz and our guide, Ali, was able to build upon our knowledge by providing greater detail and completing gaps. The tour was highly efficient and well paced. Ali took us to a wonderful restaurant for dinner which was so fun. I highly recommend this tour.
Thank you so much for your review 🩷 We are glad that you have enjoyed your time in cadiz with our great guide Ali 🌸🌸
We enjoyed the walking tour with Betty, who was very knowledgeable about the history and culture, showing us many interesting areas. The only criticism is that the food at the end was quite limited, and didn’t live up to the “healthy” food advertised.
Thank you so much Charles for your feedback and for joining our walking tour with Betty! We’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed the historical and cultural experience and found the tour informative and interesting. Regarding the food experience, we truly appreciate your honest comments. In the past, one of the challenges we faced was the limited opening hours of some restaurants, which reduced the available options during the tour schedule. However, we are currently improving the experience and expanding our collaborations with more restaurants to offer a wider variety of healthy food options that better match what we advertise and what our guests expect. Your feedback is very valuable and helps us continue growing and improving our tours. We hope to welcome you again in the future!
We walked throughout Cadiz on a Sunday which affects what is open. Nadia is American and spoke perfect English which is a refreshing change. As Canadians we could share similarities and differences in our backgrounds! Very well worth it! Cadiz is a lovely city and even though there was a marathon on, we managed to get thru some crowds!
Thank you so much Teresa for your kind words! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your walking tour of Cádiz with Nadia. She truly loves sharing the city’s history and hidden gems — even on lively days like the marathon! We’ll make sure to pass along your compliments to her. We’re so glad you had a great experience and hope to welcome you again soon! 🌞🇪🇸
We did this tour as a shore excursion while in port for the day. For cruisers, this is very convenient as the port basically deposits you right in the town. Our guide was Nadia and she was great. It was very interesting to tour with a US ex-pat who has the deep knowledge of Spanish language and culture and also the ability to compare/contrast life in Spain versus in the U.S. The tour through Cadiz is a nice mix of history/architecture and pretty parks and views. Versus the description of the meal as a traditional multi-course lunch, we went to a very popular local tapas restaurant (people were lining up waiting for it to open when we arrived) where we were able to try some of the local specialties.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your day in Cádiz with Nadia. She’s truly passionate about connecting cultures and helping visitors see Spain through both local and international perspectives. It’s great to know you loved the mix of history, beautiful views, and authentic local tapas — that’s exactly the spirit of Cádiz! We hope to welcome you again on another tour soon. 🇪🇸⚓️
Lots of walking. Very informative. Lots of history. Guide was very knowledgeable. Food was delicious and native to the area. Not “healthy “
Thank you so much Robert for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the tour, the local history, and the authentic food. We appreciate your note about the walking and the cuisine — we always try to give a real taste of the region’s culture. Hope to welcome you on another experience soon!
Had a wonderful private walking tour with Nadia. She was very knowledgeable on the culture, history, food and overall local information and entire experience was very enjoyable. Would highly recommended over a group tour.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you had such an enjoyable experience with Nadia and appreciated her knowledge of the culture, history, and local life. Our tour truly allow for a more personal connection with the city — we’re so happy you felt that! Hope to see you again on another adventure soon.
