Our guide Takaharu is an accomplished retired urban planner and the perfect source to walk us around Omotesando and a bit of Aoyama. Takaharu san showed us several examples of outstanding 20th and 21st century buildings by architects like Kenzo Tange, Kisho Kurokawa and Tadao Ando. He accompanied his erudition with an iPad where he had curated information about the architects, other examples of their works, and structural and construction drawings. It was a great way to spend the morning and we certainly felt better informed afterward. Communication with Showcase Tokyo was easy and clear.
We were very keen to see Art & Architecture in Tokyo. We had given an outline on the places/spaces we would like to see. And what we got to see with our very able & informative guide Yuki, was phenomenal. In the prescribed duration of 3.5 hours, she took us through amazing buildings, explained the various design aspects. , pointed out elements of design and also took us to an out of the world Art Gallery and a very quaint cafe at the end of the tour. It was curated so well that it felt like Yuki shared the same passion that we do for Architecture. We were satisfied 100%. Much gratitude to Yuki for making this tour a memorable one for us!
My experience with Yoshi was nothing short of FANTASTIC! I admire the preparation and professionalism he has and also the tons of documented photos he had for each architect showcased during the tour. The dedication to detail made me appreciate the tour even more. I also had a great time chatting with him during our break and our walk along Omotesando. I would gladly recommend for first-time visitors interested in architecture within Harajuku and Omotesando!
It was an excellent experience. Our guide Yoko was professional, with good research showing us wonderful examples of the modern architecture in Tokyo.
We had a great private tour with the wonderful tour guide Yuki. Lots of background information, hidden paths and objects, which we would never have visited alone. Highly recommended!!
Our guide Yoshi was very knowledgeable and passionate about architecture but we often had difficulty understanding him and feel we missed alot of information.
My partner and I like to start any trip with a walking tour to get our bearings and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with Taka. We learned so much about architecture and development in Tokyo as well as the famous architects and designers that have left their mark on Harajuku. I highly recommend this tour, particularly for those interested in getting a bit more context on the built environment.
Had an AMAZING experience! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the local buildings and architects. She adjusted the tour to things we were most interested in and also increased the length of the indoor parts of the tour because it was so hot outside. I would highly recommend this if you’re interested in architecture/design/local culture!
A lot of walking (in a good way!), a wonderful slice of the community and culture. Our guide, Aki, was knowledgeable and patient, great experience!
Both guides were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the tour tremendously. We viewed and went inside several fascinating buildings
