Itinerary
A coastal headland with sweeping views across the Waitematā Harbour. From here you’ll see Rangitoto, Browns Island, and the wider volcanic field laid out in front of you — the perfect introduction to Auckland’s volcanic story.
One of the best-preserved volcanoes in the region, with two main craters and clearly visible terraces from former pā sites. The summit walk offers wide views over the Manukau Harbour and shows how volcanic activity shaped the surrounding landscape. It’s a highlight for geology and history lovers alike.
One of Auckland’s most important volcanic and cultural sites. Maungakiekie features twin craters, ancient pā terraces, and panoramic views from the summit. The short summit walk reveals both the volcanic form and the deep Māori history that makes this one of the most significant places in Tāmaki Makaurau.
A dramatic, perfectly shaped crater and Auckland’s highest natural point. From the summit boardwalk, you’ll enjoy 360-degree views over the entire volcanic field — the ideal way to connect all the volcanoes visited throughout the tour.

This is as physical as you would like it to be. Louise adapted our tour as it was a really hot day and we left Mount Eden to the end when it was a bit cooler. Louise was very friendly, very knowledgeable about all the unique geography of Auckland and the dormant/extinct volcanoes. It was great to see different parts of Auckland driving from volcano to volcano. Louise provided cold water, a few snacks & a delicious lemon drink during our tour and at the end. It was a really great way to end our time in Auckland, spending it with Louise.
This was an absolutely fantastic afternoon with Louise. It was a beautiful day and Louise was aware of the heat of the day and organised it so when it was hottest we had really short walks. As the afternoon progressed we did longer walks, finishing with Mount Eden. The views were from all the different mounts were amazing. Throughout the trip, louise explained about all the volcanoes and how they formed, it was very interesting and she was really engaging. Louise was really open to anything we hoped to get from the afternoon. Driving to all the sights gave us the opportunity to see different parts of Auckland. It is a beautiful city and Louise is a great ambassador. I cannot recommend a tour with Louise and Kiwi Tour highly enough. You will not be disappointed.
If you are into geology, this is the Tour you should be on. Louise was a wealth of knowledge in terms of the geological area of Auckland and walking up. The three dormant volcanoes was great exercise, and the views from the top were fantastic. She was a wonderful guide the tour was well worth it.
