Description

This tour transports you back in time, to a series of locations throughout Vienna, illustrating the rich Jewish history nature of the Austrian capital. Stopping off at Volkertmarkt in the Second District, the Karmeliterviertel quarter and elsewhere, you will be offered a fascinating insight into the life of an ordinary Jewish family in Vienna over the years, as well as visits to the city center, home to not one but two well-regarded international Jewish museums. The tour also includes a host of famous monuments in Vienna depicting the tragedies that befell the Jewish population under the Fascist and Nazi regimes. The former Viennese station from where thousands of Jews were deported to concentration camps will also be a major stop on this tour. Another stop will be Vienna’s Central Cemetery, with its grand Jewish section just inside the main gate. (No entries planned)

A "must do" tour

This tour is a must do! Our tour guide Alex was excellent, answering all our questions and communicating so much about the history of Jewish Vienna. It was also very easy to get around the city, walking some places and being driven to others. It was very well planned.

Great tour with so much history of Jewish Vienna

Gerti was such a wonderful tour guide. She gave us such an in depth history of Jewish Vienna, not just WW2 and The Holocaust, but contributions by Jewish Austrians to Vienna over hundreds of years. She was very patient with my parents, who both recently had hip replacements and moved slower, and who also asked lots and lots questions. Gerti also reviewed our plans for the rest of our stay and made recommendations about what to do, even offering to help us over a phone or text if we need additional information. Thank you for such a wonderful tour, Gerti!!
