Located at the foot of arc-shaped limestone among the delta in Sai Son commune, Thay Pagoda, also known as Master Pagoda, is situated in two villages, namely Da Phuc and Thuy Khue, Quoc Oai District, Hanoi. It is the charming natural scenery with the landscapes looking like the Penglai world. Tay Phương pagoda has been renovated many times since it was built in 1632. It has three buildings on the mountainside, namely Chua Ha (Lower Pagoda), Chua Trung (Middle Pagoda) and Chua Thuong (Upper Pagoda). The pagoda is an iconic architectural site of an ancient civilization of people in Doai region. Vạn Phúc is a village traditionally associated with silk weaving in Hà Đông, 8 km south-west of Hanoi. In Vietnamese it is called both làng lụa Vạn Phúc "Van Phuc silk village" and làng lụa Hà Đông after the larger village area name.

Tay Phuong Pagoda (Chua Tay Phuong – Tay Phuong: West land of perfect Bliss of Buddha). Official name: Sung Phuc Tu (Pagoda of the cult of Buddhist benediction). From Hanoi, one should follow Road No.l to Northwest, at km 34, one should make another 3km of inter-district road to arrive at Yen hamlet, Thach Xa village, Thach That district, Ha Noi) – 239 steps made of laterite (da ong) will lead to the pagoda sitting on a hill of 50 m height. Composition: compartment for rituals and ceremonies (bai duong), main altar (chinh dien) back sanctuary (hau cung). Walls made of Bat Trang bricks.

The pagoda is associated with the name of Monk Tu Dao Hanh, who had great success in teaching and healing the locals as well as organized and established wrestling and water puppetry. Thay Pagoda with the beauty of the natural landscapes and the historical - cultural values actually creates a tourist attraction in Hanoi. On the spectacular mountain scenery of Sai Son, Thay Pagoda appearing in the tranquility under the dim mist will certainly offer tourists special impressions.
Van Phuc silk has been known for its smooth, light weight, and elegant appearance. Especially, a traditional kind of silk called Van Silk made in Van Phuc make the wearers feel cool in summer and warm in winter. Today, to satisfy various demand for silk of the market, Van Phuc silk producers have expanded their silk and garment goods like embroidered silk, , wrinkled silk, double layers and more colors for silk products. Many families in Van Phuc open their own shops on the main road of the village; create a “town of silk” that sell eye-catching and high quality silk products. Tourists may buy available nice souvenir and clothes in the shop, or select the most suitable materials to then get customized products. The sellers are very friendly and can speak a little English and French to communicate to foreign tourists.

We booked a private trip for four with Crossing Vietnam Tour (organized by our manager, Mary) and visited Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Da Nang. Everything was arranged flawlessly. All transfers were perfectly on time. Our Hanoi guide, Andrew, impressed us with his wide knowledge, excellent English, great sense of humour and personality. He responded quickly to our requests and made light changes to the programme when needed — despite that, we still managed to see everything. The Street Food tour was a highlight: all the dishes were delicious and served in clean, authentic local spots. Overall the trip was perfect — professional, well-paced and very enjoyable. We’d love to return to Vietnam to explore more regions. Highly recommended.

Visiting silk village / factory was a good experience ., Visiting Pagoda and even The Inscent unit was a beautiful experience .,
I've been to many temples and pagodas, never fully understanding the what and why and the etiquette of incense burning. I do now. Dan, Hanoi tour guide did an amazing job of explaining history and culture of the pagodas. The stairs were a work out but, worth it. Dan also took us to a restaurant with authentic home cooking style of local cuisine. It was delicious. I forgot to take a picture of the restaurants name for future reference. I just know it was blocks from the silk village. I didn't have much luck finding anything I liked at the silk village though. Thankfully I already got some handicrafts silk scarfs in Cambodia from local artisan. If you're interested in understanding culture and beliefs of the pagodas, I highly recommend the tour.
