Private Food Walking Tour in Reykjavik

Description
With our selection of local food treats you can check off a lot of things on your Icelandic food bucket list, and you sure won’t be disappointed with the quality of the restaurants we handpicked as our partners. Our Reykjavik food walk is also good to get oriented in the old Reykjavik city center. All our guides are graduates from the Icelandic Tourist guide school but more importantly, they know how to entertain as well as to educate. The only bad thing on this tour is the fermented shark, but hey, it's an adventure, and what does not kill you makes you stronger and cooler back home ;). One of the best things about doing a food tour is getting a sense of the history of the country while eating something delicious & exciting. You will also get tips on Food, Fun & Drink for the rest of our stay in Reykjavik so perfect as one of the first stops while in Reykjavik. We do of course accommodate dietary restrictions & allergies but traditional Icelandic food is meat, fish, and dairy.
Tour Options
Itinerary
We meet up in the old Reykjavik city center by the two stone pillars which signify how the original settler of Iceland and Reykjavik decided to settle
We start off down by the Reykjavik harbor with a great appetizer: An Icelandic shellfish soup
No Reykjavik Food Tour is complete without a stop at the one and only Icelandic Hot dog stand where you sample a delicious Lamb hot dog. Beware of copycats.
We stop at a local supermarket and check out some unique Icelandic foods, snacks, and candy.
If you are so lucky to be walking with us during the day at weekends we add a fun stroll through the authentic small food market inside the Reykjavik Flea Market. There we discover all kinds of very traditional Icelandic Foods together. Keep in mind the Reykjavik Flea Market is only open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.
We end up at the unique Restaurant Dass by Hallgrimskirkja church. There we have the opportunity to try several Icelandic delicacies and last but not least the unique Fermented shark (Hakarl). We also celebrate our food journey together with a non-alcoholic or alcoholic drink Icelandic drink of your choosing. We recommend a special beer or maybe Black Death the one and only Icelandic snaps.

My husband & I did the Reykjavik walking food tour with our guide, Einar. Einar was fantastic! He was informative and shared family history & stories which only added to our experience. And the choice of restaurants were varied, interesting, essentially Icelandic and delicious!! Because it was a walking tour we got an appreciation for Reykjavik, its history and how food is such a strong part of the culture. We would highly recommend this tour for an authentic Icelandic experience.
Ester E is an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable and nice. She shows love for her city & country. We enjoyed very much all the food samples. Thank you
Bo was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun & exciting. You get a good amount of food for your $$$. Would go again!
Great walking tour of Teykjavik and wonderful restaurants with a nice variety of local dishes. Guide Palli was very entertaining and informative.
Your Friend in Reykjavík was very easy to deal with. We needed to change the day of our tour and they were very accommodating. Our guide Stefan was very engaging. He talked a lot about Iceland and was interested in our lives as well. The food was all excellent...welllll maybe not the fermented shark. The variety of dishes was just right. We all had plenty to eat. We would recommend Stefan and Your Friend to anyone.
My son and I had a wonderful private food tour on the day we arrived in Reykjavík. Our tour guide, Einar Steinn Valgarosson, was the best of the BEST!! As a native Icelander, he was well versed in everything Iceland! I would never hesitate recommending Your Friend in Reykjavík tours!
Our vegan / vegetarian food guide Hrafn was spectacular. He knew so much, not only about good vegan / vegetarian places to eat, but also about the history of Iceland. He was able to answer all the questions we had about Iceland, he had endless knowledge. Also the food tasting places we went to were delicious. I would highly recommend this tour and I hope you are lucky enough to get Hrafn as your guide !!!
We scheduled a Vegetarian and Vegan food walking tour. Our guide Hrafn was terrific. So full of information about the city and history and answered all our questions with ease. He was personable and easy to do the tour with.
The venues were excellent from both the point of history and ambiance. The food was excellent and representative of all that Iceland has to offer. Oli, our guide, was very personable and informative. We enjoyed hearing about Iceland and his experiences with food growing up in the country. I highly recommend this tour early in a visit to Iceland.
