One of the most impressive places in Thailand that most visitors want to explore is The Historic City of Ayutthaya. It is known as the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom. It flourished in over 400 years from the 14th to the 18th centuries. During that time, it grew to be one of the world’s most cosmopolitan and largest urban areas and a center of global commerce and diplomacy. Ayutthaya was situated on an island covered by three rivers which linked the city to the sea. This site was chosen as it was situated above the Gulf of Siam’s tidal bore because it existed at that time. Therefore, it helped to prevent the attack of the city by the sea - going warships of other nations.
Wat Mahathat (Temple of the Great Relics) is located almost right in the center of Ayutthaya. Apart from being the symbolic center where the Buddha's relics were enshrined, Wat Mahathat was also the residence of the Supreme Patriarch or leader of the Thai Buddhist monks. The temple is believed to be built during the 14th century A.D. (the early Ayutthaya period).
Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is situated on the city island in Ayutthaya’s World Heritage park in Pratu Chai Sub-district. It has been registered as a national historic site by the Fine Arts Department since 5 March 1935. This monastery was the most important temple of Ayutthaya and situated within the Grand Palace grounds. It served as a model for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.
Wat Lokaya Sutha, “the temple of the Earth” is located near the North West tip of the historical island near the old Royal Palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet. Highlight of the monastery is its 42 meter long Reclining Buddha image, usually draped in orange cloth. Apart from the central prang which is in fairly good condition, little more than the base of the main buildings remains today.

My guide was great. I wish I could remember her name, but it was a pleasure to spend time with her. The tour was well worth the money and I had a great time.
Our guide Watchira was wonderful! He was so friendly and knowledgeable and really made the tour come alive. Excellent!
Guide was great. She was knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about Thailand and its history. It was a fun day with lots of adventure.
Wonderful day with this tour. It’s a long day, but an excellent way to see a lot if you only have a little bit of time. Our guide and driver were wonderful. Highly recommend this tour!
Great tour locations, great guide and value for money. Very long day but well worth it. Driver was also very lovely and lunch provided was nice
Got to see alot of Ayutthaya and all it has to offer. My guide was very lovely and very knowledgeable. A very long day but worth being tired after
This was a fun and educational excursion. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and the driver very good. The tour included all entry fees, lunch and offerings at some temples. It was a full day but so worth it!
Good tour, on time, interesting experience at the floating market and with the train. At Ayutthaya, not so many people but very hot. The tour guide level in English could be improved a lot, not a lot of explanations on top of what we can find on the signs over there. Nice 1 day excursion,
Thank you for your honest feedback! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the floating market and train experience, as well as the quieter atmosphere in Ayutthaya despite the heat. We appreciate your note about the guide’s English and explanations—we’ll definitely work on improving that to make future tours even more informative and enjoyable. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and we hope you had a memorable day overall!
This is a great tour. A very long day but we didn't have long in Bangkok and wanted to see many things. Picked up from hotel early which beat a bit of the dreadful Bangkok traffic and headed west to the train market. Air, the guide has an arrangement with a slushie stall at the market and after a 5 min walk (with the rest of the tourists) along the train track, that stall has saved front row seats/standing for us as the train passes. Meanwhile our choice of slushie is being made!! The flower market experience starts off calmy at a families small business which takes us on their boat through the floating market. Everyone helpful, obliging and clean toilets available. (after the huge slushie :) ) Then, after another hour+ driving we end up at Ayutthaya - first off was a lovely lunch of our choice, to give us sustenance for the tours ahead... We visited the 4 sites as listed. All wonderful to see and with the historical background explained by the guide. It was a wonderful tour and the driver too was so helpful and a safe driver for the long, but worthwhile day.
From start to finish our tour guide Aey was phenomenal. In the first half you explore the markets and her expertise of the area allows you to be whisked off to the best spots of the market. She even provided snacks and fruit throughout our walk. The second portion was the temples at the legendary Ayutthaya. She delved deep and provided detailed insightful knowledge at all historic sights. Not only did we enjoy this experience but we felt like we made a great new friend in Thailand. Thank you Aey! Shout out to our driver as well. Definitely recommend booking this delightful day trip from Bangkok.
