My wife and I just visited Egypt from the U.S. (October 2019). We really wanted to explore the mainstream, as well as, the lesser explored. We took this excursion to Dendera and Abydos and we were NOT disappointed. The colors were bright, the architecture unique and stories each temple tells (e.g. Dendera alignment with astrology), etc. were AMAZING! Neither was overly crowded, and due to leaving earlier (7AM) we seemed to regularly be just in front of the crowd for both - although typically a smaller crowd in general. Ali was our guide and was very knowledgeable and provided lots of great stories and information. We would definitely recommend him. Be aware that this does have some car time involved due to the distance and location. If you can tolerate it, definitely worth your time!
My partner and I did a private tour to go to visit the temples at Abydos and Dendera earlier this week. The journey on the road from Luxor was long. But the guide and the driver were helpful. Regarding the temples, our guide had good knowledge about both temples. For example, we've been to a secret passage. Abydos has got a mystic spirit. Then Dendera has got a beautiful ceiling and nice paintings on the zodiac calendar. The travel worth it!
