Overall, the cooking class was good, and Liz was absolutely wonderful. Liz asked us if we could move our class time from 9 AM to 3 PM and we agreed. Unfortunately, our Uber driver took us to the wrong location so we were 30 minutes late meeting at the market. By that time, the market was getting ready to close. They didn't have all the ingredients that we needed for our selected dishes we were going to learn to cook, so we made a last-minute change in menu. It also was a bit of a surprise that the cost of the ingredients weren't included in the price of the class. It wasn't a huge deal since the ingredients only cost probably $25 USD but we bought more ingredients than we needed for the recipes (i.e., bag of flour that we used a 1/3, etc) The recipes we made were full recipes that made enough for about 6 to 8 people with leftover uncooked ingredients. WE wish there had been to-go boxes for the leftovers of food and ingredients that we had bought so we would have been able to share the delicious food with our friends later that night. We are still looking forward to receiving the recipes from Liz.
I want to thank you once again for this professional cooking experience that was, at the same time, so welcoming. From the beginning, there was a very natural connection with Liz, and everything was very harmonious. First, we went together to the market, personally bought all the ingredients, and even negotiated a bit, which made the experience even more authentic. Then we cooked in her apartment and enjoyed truly delicious dishes. What I liked the most was the personal touch: knowing that many of the recipes come from her grandmother made the course a special, close, and very authentic experience. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to experience more than just a simple cooking class.
The experience begins with a visit to the La Perseverancia market alongside Liz, who showed me this authentic place, full of life and charm. Among the colors, aromas, and warmth of the vendors, I was able to immediately immerse myself in Colombian culture. While we were buying the necessary ingredients for the recipes I had previously chosen, Liz explained to me the different fruits, vegetables, and typical products of the country, sharing many anecdotes and very interesting facts. Afterward, we went to her house, where the cooking class began. Liz had me participate in every step of the preparation with great patience, excellent teaching skills, and always with a big smile. In addition to teaching me the recipes, she shared many stories about Colombia, its culture, and its traditions, and gave me excellent recommendations about places to visit, both in Bogotá and in other regions of the country. The class ends with a delicious lunch around the dishes we prepared together, in a warm and very pleasant atmosphere. More than just a simple cooking class, it was a true immersion in Colombian culture. I recommend this experience without hesitation to anyone who wants to discover the country from an authentic perspective. Thank you so much, Liz, for your kindness, generosity, enthusiasm, and passion! I take away delicious recipes, unforgettable memories, and a much deeper knowledge of Colombia.
Loved this immersive experience from selecting the dishes I wanted to make, to shopping for the ingredients at the local market to then graciously being welcomed into her apartment to make the food. Very calm experience, cooking to whatever music we wanted, learning new techniques I hadn’t known for the hogao sauce for the patacones & making the patacones themselves. The food we made from vegan ajiaco con tofu to arepas to patacones, this was the best food I had in Colombia and glad to know how to make myself. Thank you so much Liz for offering this experience!
This for me was the absolute highlight to my 2 month travel throughout Colombia. From walking through the markets with Liz, picking out what we need to being in her incredible home / kitchen was just such a surreal experience. Liz you are also such a fantastic cook. WOW. Thank you again for looking after me. Whether you are solo like me or in a big group, this could not suit anyone better. Thanks again Liz
Liz is very friendly and helpful instructor. We began with a tour of the market where we bought the ingredients. You get to choose 2 appetizers and one main. The food was delicious.
Liz was an amazing host. From the moment we met at the market, she helped my friend and me figure out what ingredients we needed. Then, when it came time to cook, Liz explained everything we had to do, and we had a wonderful time chatting and cooking, just like friends do. Thank you so much, Liz, for your kindness and willingness to help, as well as for sharing your cooking knowledge and techniques with us.
Liz is a kind soul who is a window into traditional Colombian cuisine and modern Colombian society. After learning from Liz and tasting her family recipes, my family enjoyed her arepas, hogao, and patacones more than any restaurant or hotel we experienced. She proudly shared her culinary heritage in a way that one’s aunt or mom may teach rather than a formal culinary class. We loved it. We also enjoyed the procurement of local ingredients at the local market (note: the participant pays—our grocery bill was about $15).
The cooking class with Lizeth was one of the highlights of my stay in Bogotá. She is incredibly kind and welcoming. We did the grocery shopping together, and she carefully walked me through each ingredient and step of the cooking process, sharing helpful tips along the way. She’s such a lovely person!! I would absolutely do it again on my next visit to Bogotá. Truly the best! 🥰
This was everything we wanted it to be. Lizeth was so welcoming and personable and taught us everything we needed to know. She clearly loves her job and it showed. We enjoyed spending time with her creating a great meal. If you want an authentic Colombian experience you won’t soon forget do not hesitate to sign up and do this. We had about 36 hours in Bogota and would do this again every time.
