Itinerary
This tour will start from your accommodation in Barcelona. Your guide will pick you up at any apartment or hotel in Barcelona, you are staying in. Please, make sure to specify the exact adress of your accomodation when booking. After the pick-up is completed, you will head to the first destination of your tour.
Discover the Salt Valley of Cardona, a vast and fascinating site stretching 1,800 meters long and 600 meters wide, covering an area of 100 hectares. This unique destination offers breathtaking views of the valley, ancient mine galleries, and an impressive collection of historic mineral extraction machinery. Explore the rich history of salt mining, delve into the geology, mineralogy, and botany of the region, and learn how this remarkable landscape has shaped the area’s past.
While Iberian remains have always been linked to the richness of the Saline Valley, the origins of Cardona are in its Castle. The village, which grew from the fortification, is today incredibly well preserved. Besides the medieval charm of its streets and squares, you will also find examples of Gothic and Romanesque churches, chapels and civilian architecture. The geographical location of the fortress, on the top of the mountain, perfectly meets its historical need to defend the access to the salt mines. The structure also enjoys a privileged view of the Cardener River Valley. From the XI to the XV century, the castle served as the residence of some of the noblest lineages of lords in the country. As a defensive structure for the salt mines, the castle endured several sieges throughout its history.

An expensive trip but incredible sights and history. Our guide Ramon was very friendly and knowledgeable
Highlight of our tour was our guide, Ramón! He was super knowledgeable, passionate about our tour locations, fun, and high energy! We took the Cardona tour specifically for my partner and his father to be able to visit their namesake. Ramon took special care and it was an unforgettable experience! Highly, highly recommend!!
Fantastic experience, the Xavi guide was perfect!
Marcel was an amazing tour guide! The castle had a beautiful interior and exterior with breathtaking views from the top! Loved Cardona’s streets, shops and their town square. The Salt Mountain tour was very informative. Opted to spend less time in Cardona and visited Montserrat monastery on the return. This tour will not disappoint!
We had a relaxing and informative tour. Guide Ramon was excellent. He made sure we don’t get bored on the tour. Ramon was giving us enough time o explore places at our own pace and information about the history behind the place. At the end he did small quiz with my children and they loved it. Thank you for great experience!!
