Itinerary
Ponza is the largest island of the Pontine archipelago, known for its colorful harbor, dramatic cliffs, and crystal-clear waters. Its volcanic landscape has created a coastline filled with hidden coves, sea caves, and natural rock formations.
The Grotte di Pilato are an impressive complex of ancient Roman caves carved directly into Ponza’s cliffs. Once used as fish ponds by the Romans, they remain one of the island’s most fascinating archaeological sites.
Faro della Guardia stands dramatically on Ponza’s southernmost cliffs, overlooking the open Tyrrhenian Sea. This historic lighthouse marks one of the island’s most scenic and rugged viewpoints.
Chiaia di Luna is Ponza’s most iconic beach, a stunning crescent of pale sand backed by towering white cliffs that rise dramatically above the turquoise sea. Often, we will have a swim stop here.
Capo Bianco is known for its striking white cliffs and crystal-clear water. Weather permitting, you may even have the chance to swim through a small sea cave carved into the rock.
Located beneath the hilltop village of Le Forna, Cala Feola is a picturesque cove that also functions as a small harbor for local fishing boats. Its calm, crystal-clear waters and nearby natural rock pools make it one of Ponza’s favorite swimming spots.
Piscine Naturali are a series of natural rock pools formed along Ponza’s coastline, where calm, crystal-clear water creates the perfect spot for swimming and relaxing.
Cala dell’Acqua takes its name from a natural freshwater spring that once supplied the island. The source was already used in Roman times, when Ponza served as an important maritime stop in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Cala Fonte is a scenic fishing cove famous for its natural rock pools and traditional boat shelters carved into the cliffs.
Overlooking the sea, Forte Papa is a historic defensive fort that once guarded Ponza’s coastline. Nearby, the wreck of a U.S. World War II landing craft lies beneath the crystal-clear water, adding a fascinating layer of modern history.
Cala Cecata is a rugged coastal inlet known for the remains of Ponza’s historic bentonite mine, where mineral extraction once played an important role in the island’s economy.
Cala Felci is known for its striking yellow-streaked cliffs, where sulphur deposits color the rock and reveal traces of Ponza’s volcanic origins.
Punta Incenso marks the northernmost point of Ponza, where rugged cliffs plunge into deep blue waters. This wild and unspoiled stretch of coastline offers some of the island’s most dramatic views and crystal-clear swimming spots.
Cala Gaetano is a beautiful rocky cove on Ponza’s eastern coast, known for its crystal-clear waters and striking cliffs. The sheltered bay makes it a perfect spot for swimming and snorkeling.
Arco Naturale is a spectacular rock arch sculpted by the sea over thousands of years. Rising from the cliffs, it stands as one of Ponza’s most photographed natural wonders.
Spiaggia del Frontone is Ponza’s best-known beach, loved for its clear turquoise water, smooth white pebbles, and vibrant beach clubs.
After our boat tour comes to an end, we will visit the charming historic center of Ponza, famous for its pastel-colored buildings and lively harbor. You’ll have one hour of free time to stroll the waterfront, explore local boutiques, or enjoy a café with sea views.

Valerio was a great tour guide. He was very helpful. This was one of the best experience I've ever had. 10/10 would recommend.
Thank you so much for your kind review, so happy to hear that this was one of the best experiences you have ever had - and it's great that you found Valerio to be a great and helpful tour guide. Please come back and visit!
Everything went very well on our day trip to Ponza Island, from Rome. Pickup was at a central meeting point that was easy to find, the bus was comfortable and air conditioned, the guide coordinated everyone's purchase of ferry tickets, the boat was nice and our guide, Mara, did a fantastic job of narrating our journey around the island. It was not inexpensive for a family of four, but the quality of the trip justified the price.
We're always glad to hear it was worth the price -- and happy to hear Mara did a fantastic job. The logistics might seem like a detail but we know to make a perfect day it all needs to run smoothly and we make a huge effort to ensure it does! So thank you for noticing.
Our family of four two weeks in Italy this summer as our family vacation (kids ages 12 & 14). This was hands down one of the highlights of our trip that we all will remember for a lifetime. Huge “thank you” to our guide, Mara. She is amazing and her passion for hosting a tour shines through! Mara felt like family for a day including swimming through caves in clear aqua water. Ti amo, Ponza island!!
To heart his was a highlight of your trip is always the best compliment you can give. I will pass on your "thank you" to Mara -- we know we are lucky to have her!
Well organized, pickup in Rome was very easy, comfortable bus with air conditioning, good lunch, tour guide Mara was great
Good to hear! It's our aim that the logistics like transport and timings all run smoothly and we're working hard in the background so that all you need to worry about is having a perfect day in Ponza - so thank you for noticing!
A good way to beat the summertime heat, a boat trip, swimming through caves, blue and turquoise waters, lunch, wine, and a moment to spend on Ponza... I went on a Saturday, and this day trip exceeded my expectations. And especially, Mara, our guide, was incredible. She ensured that everyone had a memorable trip, and went out of her way to do so! She led a group of about 13 people from Rome to meet up with other groups that boarded the boat in Ponza that accommodates around 50. Both the Italian- and English-speaking guests were catered for. Everyone seemed at ease and comfortable on the boat. I highly recommend this trip if you are looking to escape the regular Rome sights and do something completely different. The cost was a little high - take note of the 60 euros additional for the ferry. However, if you are lucky, you may find a discount to reduce the sticker price a bit.
What's a trip if it isn't memorable?! Every guest is important to us and we love to hear that Mara went out of her way to make sure the trip was special for every single guest. Thank you so much for your kind words and we hope to welcome you back soon.
10 out of 10! Our day trip from Rome to Ponza was truly unforgettable... Kimberly and our guide/skipper went above and beyond to make sure our experience was perfection. Well organized and on time guides who share all the history and stories of Ponza/beaches/coves. Each stop was next level gorgeous. We snorkeled thru caves and arches, all with varying hues of clear blue water. Best. Day. Ever!
Thank you for trusting us with your private tour! It was our pleasure having your family join us in Ponza and we hope you'll join us again one day.
I recommend it, it is pure beauty, we enjoyed it a lot, really a very good experience, staff very attentive,
Tour was great. Our tour guide Mara was amazing. She was very accommodating with everyone. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Thank you so much for your kind review, Rosa! I'll pass Mara your compliments. Hope to have you back soon.
This is Italy’s best kept secret, spectacular boat tour with swimming in some of the most beautiful places on earth! Tour guide Mara was amazing and personable, she is a rockstar! I need to share this part because it was perfect, we stopped alongside a beautiful cliff where they served a pasta lunch with cold vino, brava! Then…. I’m thinking to myself how good would an espresso be right now?! The captain walks out with a fresh brew of the best espresso I’ve ever had! Perfecto!!! 5⭐️
This is the kind of review we live for! Thank you for sharing your experience - and we'll be sure to pass on your compliments to Mara. That espresso really hits the spot, doesn't it?
What a wonderful day with a terrific guide named Mara. Everything was just perfect. One of the most beautiful islands with incredible deep blue clear water. From the ride over to the boat tour and back, nothing but a pleasant and positive experience, start to finish.
Looks like you fell in love with Ponza too! So happy Mara was able to make your day just perfect. We hope to welcome you back soon one day.
