Ghost stories have a very different kind of charm to lure readers with old forts, ruins of castles, deserted alleys, sinister houses, and abandoned spirits. Lying 21 Km from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Kuldhara village has a similar story to tell. At present Kuldhara Village is a heritage site and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). As you enter the premises of this ancient village you can feel as if time has stood still in Kuldhara for the last 200 years. Straight dusty roads with intermittent rows of mud houses, cul-de-sac lanes, sandstone walls, and a temple once visited by the Paliwals stand as a living testimony of some sad past. To the east of the village lies the parched river bed of Kakni which is a warning of the impossibility of sustenance of life in this place.

The Indian state of Rajasthan is widely known for its rich forts and palaces. Among its uncountable number of forts, one Khaba Fort is very popular for being one of a kind. Located near the town of Jaisalmer, Khaba Fort is situated in the Khaba village amid the giant Thar Desert. This ruined fort once housed a kingdom in it and was the epicenter of the Kuldhara village. Many tourists visit the place to unearth its history and several mysteries that haunt the village to date. The abandoned houses near the fort are a popular spot for adventure seekers and myth-busters. The broken entrance for the Khaba fort starts near the spooky Kuldhara village. One can see the entire village and the nearby areas from the top of the fort.

Unforgettable Desert Night Under the Stars

Our overnight desert safari was an amazing experience from start to finish. It began with an exciting jeep ride through the dunes, followed by a surprisingly long and atmospheric camel ride deep into the desert to a truly remote camp. The setting was beautifully simple and authentic — a small group, dinner prepared over the fire, and a peaceful desert atmosphere far away from crowds. Sleeping in real beds under the open sky, surrounded by silence and stars, was something truly special. Our caravan guide, Puna, was excellent — friendly, attentive, and clearly experienced. As an extra highlight, the camels spent the night close to our camp, which made the whole experience feel even more unique and memorable. An unforgettable desert adventure. Highly recommended.

Silence, starry, vast skies and camels!

Pleasant Haveli Camel Safari overnight tour was a lovely experience. We ended up with just another couple who left after dinner, leaving just the two of us (as well as the lovely camel guide and our camels) comfortably set up with clean sheets, pillows and blankets in the stillness and silence of desert, under the vast sky fill with a half moon sprinkled with glittering stars. This tour is reasonably priced, well organised and very simple and natural in its appeal; just the way we prefer it to be! We highly recommend.

Amazing night in desert with camels

My adult son and I had a delightful overnight safari with our wonderful guide Ukke. Experience was as described in ad and also other reviews. Food was simple but delicious and plentiful. We preordered some beer to have watching the sun set and the stars. Camel driver (and young nephew 10-12yo) was a man of few words but very helpful. All in all it lived up to our hopes … if you’re thinking about it just do it!

Overnight camel safari

Me and my wife went on the overnight camel safari together, and we both enjoyed it very much. First we went for a long distance by jeep visiting a couple places a long the route. Then we went the last stretch by camel. The guides were all very friendly and helpful. They prepared snacks, a tasty dinner for us and breakfast in the morning. Also they prepared a bonfire for us to sit around. We slept in cots watching the stars before falling asleep. I will very much recommend this tour. Especially because of how great our guides were.

One night alone in the desert around a campfire. Fantastic.

A real night under the stars after a meal made on site around a campfire. Alone with our quiet camels.

Special camel desert safari

We had a great time. Collected from our hotel. Another couple came for the experience of the desert but chose not to do the camel ride or stay overnight. Good visits to places of cultural interest en route. Then the camel ride. Awesome. We’re not young but very doable. An hour’s walk into the desert to our overnight spot. No one else around, perfect sunset, lovely veg Thali and camp fire. We brought some wine to enjoy. Slept under a planetarium sky. Woke early to watch the sun rise. Had breakfast and returned by camel to our transport All very special and unique. Very well organised and delivered as promised

Beautiful experience. 10 and praise.

Beautiful experience. The welcome at Pleasant Haveli, the first part by jeep to see the lake where the villages make water and the abandoned fort, then the meeting with the camel driver who brought us the camels and accompanied us into the desert. Arriving on the dunes, we watched the sunset as he prepared dinner over the fire. After dinner he lit the fire and provided wood to keep it burning, it was New Year's Eve. After midnight we're lying down to sleep on cots with lots of blankets for the cold and the damp. Finally breakfast and camel ride back. A unique and unforgettable experience. And when we returned to the Pleasant they gave us a room to shower and change, kept our backpacks in storage until the evening and called a tuctuc to accompany us. All very kind. 10 and praise.

Great desert safari tour in Jaisalmer

We loved our desert safari tour. Ukka is a great guide, and the tour takes you to sand dunes away from the crowds where you can watch the sunset with a chai. Highly recommend.
